I saw this while browsing Pbase. WOW! What an amazing museum! See if you spot the rock lock with a funky looking frizzen return gadget.

It looks like an automatic self primer. I've heard of them, but I don't very many survived. See the screw on the top? I think that is where the priming powder was loaded. One little spark in the wrong place would really ruin your day.

The idea was that a soldier would only have to worry about loading the barrel, cock the gun and shoot. He wouldn't have to take time to prime the lock.

Ya know, I've been known to do some rather dumb-a$$ded things, especially when tequilla was involved, but I really don't think I would ever want some self priming thingy anywhere near my face when the spark hits the pan. :youcrazy:

Like I said, I don't think many of these survived, I doubt that their inventors survived either.

Even a Caveman is smart enough not to shoot a gun with a bomb for a rear sight. :haha:

Uh oh, don't rile up the cavemen. They seem to get a little testy at times.

With that screw cap on top, I reckon it must be for priming powder. Man, how many pints of ale must have been under the inventor's belt when he thought of THAT idea? I wonder how many of them grenaded before they figured out it was a bad idea? :shake:

Yup, us cavemen are a bit smarter than what ya see in the movies. Well, unless tequilla is involved :shocked2:
