Has anyone here ever sold and shipped flintlocks or perc type firearms to somene in Canada ? If so how dificult is it to be done and what legal issues do you incounter ? Thanks for any help

I have had a flintlock kit shipped to me by TOTW, and it was no problem at all. However, the deciding factor in my choosing a flinter over a caplock is that caplocks have to be registered with our thrice damned long-gun registry, whereas flintlocks do not.

:cursing: :shake: :youcrazy: I know. I don't understand it either. I always thought fascists were nothing if not consistent.

You can ship as many flintlocks as you want to Canada....No problem.
You can ship some others? percussion? as long as the lock is not with the gun...it is not a percussion.
When assembled,it is a percussion...then it is the responsibility of the new owner to do whatever he has to do to comply with the law.
Pistols ( revolvers) are another story. NO WAY!
Up here in Canada, we can purchase all the barrels and locks that we want, percussion, or flintlock, only when complete does the eyes of the law become involved.

not to get 'off topic,' and it's really not for me to throw stones at your government, but fascists (or,as i see it, monothematic idealogues) really are consistent: they will chip away at your liberties until you have been nickel&dimed into servitude. if the have to chip away slowly, they'll do that under the color of 'state security' or 'public safety.' ever notice how much harder it is to repeal a statute than it is to enact one?

just one guy's opinion... sorry to hijack the thread.

In all fairness to our current federal government they have stopped funding to the gun registry. They want to scrap it all together but the opposition parties, liberal and socialist, won't let them.

Yup, that's true. Our current government is much better than the previous one, and they have had their hands tied to some degree. But they are currently taking another run at getting rid of the registry. I hope they succeed.

don't hold your breath boys with out a majority the Harper gov. is hamstrug against a liberal opposition.

remember that the issue is NOT the well being of the public it is control of your guns ...for fast food aids in the death of more people than firearms! ...and they haven't outlawed junk food yet!JMHO.

flint locks are shippable to Canada no problem.
I do it as often as I can.

No I'm not holding my breath. I expect you Ontarians will fail to give us the majority we need .... again  :blah: :v

In Alberta we passed a law enshrining the right to hunt, fish and trap for all Albertan's last year. They could have gone one step further and instituted the right to bear arms, as the Feds have no authority over property rights.

thats a pretty wide paint brush your using on us folks in Ontario .

remember that the liberal vote is in the city ,folks in the sticks have no problem with guns they were all brought up to respect them like any other tools that can hurt you if miss used ie P.T.O's,grain auger's,hay elevators...chain saws.

us folks in Ontario have little contol over the media coverage of the city folk that shoot each other .they blame the gun not the cowerds behind them. don't blame ALL the folks in Ontario ...just the ones living in the city frightened buy the media
...the last I heard the liberals were taking the lead in the western polls! something about a deficit budget...

...as for the flintlocks to the door?? I have mine go to the post office for pick up.

not to hijack this thread, but as a side note, if you're an American and NOT an NRA member reread this thread...

I agree, Im a Ontarian, and nothing close to a bloody Liebral.

Flintlocks are ok to ship to Canada, so are ORIGIONAL ANTIQUE percussion arms both long arms and pistols,

newly made percussion pistols and rifles are considered the same as modern rifles and pistols "yeah it doesnt make sence to me either???"

I cant have a newly made percussion rifle or pistol sent,
but...... I can have a antique Snider or martini henry long rifle and a colt lightening pistol in 41 cal sent right to my door no problem :youcrazy:

Completely absurd.....yes I agree

I would not ship ANYTHING OF VALUE.
The Canadian Post Office or Customs seems to loose about 25%.
At least in my limited experience.
I would not dream of shipping any kind of firearm.
I won't even ship cleaning rods. Last one, after the first disappeared into some UNTRACEABLE blackhole (NOTE: they have a NUMBERED customs label attached), was shipped to the US side and the Canadian traveled to the US to get it. No sweat.

I shipped a flintlock to Canada once. I had to print the papers that say it is not concidered a firearm. Everything went fine. Showed them the papers that said its not considered a firearm and they took it.

I ship flintlocks to Canada several times a year and have for several years.

I use the U.S. post office. The form is simple to fill out and the piece goes smoothly through custome from the US. P.O. to Canadian P.O. The Canadian P.O. notifies the recipient that they have a package waiting whence they pay the duty and pick up their flintlock gun.

Hints: Do not lie on the forms concerning what is in the package or the value. The customs people are not stupid and resent it when you assume they are. NEVER use the words "firearm" or "gun" on the form. It is a replica flintlock musket or restoration parts. Fill out the form COMPLETELY and mark the little box in the lower right corner "to return the goods" and not abandon if there is a problem. This is the blackhole that was mentioned. Print legibly!! If you make it easy for customs then they will make it easy for you too. List everything that is in the box like acccessories, molds, etc. or they might not be there when the package is delivered.

Hope this helps.

i have never had a flintlock shipped to me from the US but have bought lots and lots of other stuff from the US .just as he said - the sender fills in the declaration on the parcel when he takes it to the post office . don,t lie for no one , quote the correct value of the item and all the items inside . the canadian post office sends the recipiant a notice to go pick up the parcel and the post office collects the tax and duty as soon as the parcel is picked up . . i am waiting for the rite flinter to show up on here and then i will give it a try .

Aw, I'm just teasing.

I know that this is more of a rural/urban thing. And I took note of how rural Ontario elected a lot of Conservatives last time.

Actually, I think there is some home for the next election. And the libs will not do well at least in Alberta, deficit or not. Remember, Alberta's Progressive Conservatives are actually right leaning big government liberals now.
