I just purchased a nice old, breeched rifle barrel that might be a great small game gun. It’s just 32” long with a straight (not swamped) barrel. 36 caliber, 7/8” across flats with a straight tang. It has a 1:42 twist.
I would like a semi carved stock with just the barrel and ramrod channel and hole milled. Plane maple or something a poor guy might afford🤔
Suggestions?

Hi Pathfinder

I've also used Pecatonica a couple times to have just the barrel and ramrod hole/channel inlets done. Both turned out well. In both cases I sent them my barrel. They did the work at a reasonable price and only a 2-3 day turn around. In one case I bought a super nice piece of English walnut from Dunlap. I sent the wood and my barrel to Pecatonica and they did the work and forwarded both to Brian Anderson. Brian said they did an excellent job of inletting the barrel and ramrod hole/channel.

As mentioned, Pecatonica would likely have some plain maple 2nd's.
