Where can I find a trusted source to put a value on my R Southgate #208 40 cal.? It is in excellent condition at all levels (Bore, Barrel, Stock, etc.)

Is the grain in that stock as plain as it looks ? does not show much in your pictures . Plain basic rifles normally go from $700 - $1000 depending on condition of the gun overall and grain of the stock. I have seen them sell for less but not often and never when I had any money to spend . He made some with fancy grain stocks and more inlays that were nicely engraved rather than the basic zig zag line . Those bring $1500 and up . I know of a few of these that have sold in the $3500 range but there were never many of them made. He made you what you wanted to pay for and most opted for the basic rifle with maybe an upgrade in wood and possibly an extra inlay or two . He built shooters not collectors items . His barrels are as good as you can get , then and now in my opinion.
I posted links to several completed auctions of his rifles on another thread , might look at those and compare them to your rifle . Really hard to value what you have from the pictures you posted and the info you give.
