I have an old wool army blanket and was thinking of making a split front hunting shirt with a cape for colder hunting/ camping trips.I may even just make a pull over hunting shirt/smock without the cape. Who makes a decent pattern for a sewing novice? I am not a great tailor so I need something fairly simple. We've been gettig some pretty crappy weather here and I think it would give me something to do that doesn't cost a fortune.

I would think a typical shirt pattern would work fine for the pullover version. I used Kanniks Korner for my shirt, and was very pleased. The shirts are a super simple pattern. You could also find a copy of Tidings From the 18th Century by Beth Gilgun (not sure if I spelled her name right). It has instructions for making a shirt. I got a copy through inter-library loan.
