I have two matching "hogscraper" candle holders for sale. They stand 7" tall and are 4" across the base. Matching brass "wedding bands" adorn the sockets at the midpoint. The lifts are used to raise the height of the candles as they burn. The lifts on these candlesticks are functional operating as they should and their handles are stamped with the initials CWF. Correctly constructed by having being secured to the base with a square cut nut. Both sticks have some minor rust on the springs that hold the lifts in place (see photos).
I have attached a Carrington & Bowles etching from 1779. The detail clearly shows a very similar hogsraper on the table in the background. So, these candlesticks would be perfect for your Rev War or later camp or homestead. BTW -- This style of candle holder is known as a "hogscraper" due to its resemblance to a tool used to scrape the hair from a butchered pig as part of the preservation process.
Price is $40 plus $9.00 shipping in the continental US.
