This belongs to a co-worker and he is looking to trade it at a local show for a Savage 99. There are no names on it at all. It has a Damaskas barrel. Just ahead of the lock on the left hand side of the barrel it is marked 770. It appears to be about .40 cal.

On the side plate just under the nipple is a dog running.

The "dog" is probably a fox which was standard for some tradeguns but I can't tell you who without some checking in books. Could you possibly provide an overall shot of the gun, that would help a lot. Also check for visible proof marks as well. Hope this helps a bit.

It looks like there is a *D on the barrel, and something else I can't identify, almost a arrow.

Here's what I found on the bottom of the barrel.

50 WG 1.3.8 *L and 3 notches.

That's a nice looking gun. The trigger guard is a lot like the ones found on US contract rifles made by Phillip Justice here during the Civil War. I figure he imported much of his hardware from Belgium and that may explain the resemblance.

Sorry my camera sucks. :shake:

Any guesses on the value before it heads to the show today?
