Other than what little I can find on the internet, does anyone have any sources for Wyeth's visit to the Columbia River 1833-1834? Am particularly interested in his Fort William that he built on Sauvie Island (rather too close to the Ft Vancouver of HBC). I know that his fort was short lived and apparently bought out by HBC but I have absolutely no references other than gleaned from the Net. Also have an interest in the HBC/Puget Sound Agricultural Commision's Cowlitz Farm, near Toledo, Washington. This farm was to assist in the contract that HBC had with the Russians here on the west coast, to provide foodstuffs to the Alaska settlements. Any good books or references appreciated. Thanks in advance...

You might want to see if you can find:
The Journals of Captain Nathaniel J. Wyeth's Expeditions to the Oregon Country 1831-1836

Nice book for Nat, his journals for the time with some letters in the back. I found mine on ebay, paid I think $9.00 for it. 130+ pages, another good Ye Galleon Press book. I will be posting a few of the entries on fishing sometime soon from it.

Don't know if you've seen this, but Click here I don't know if it's Wyeth's complete journal, as I haven't read it through. Regardless, Hope it helps.

Wow, that was the link I was looking for! I managed to find a copy of the 1831-36 journal but for some odd reason it really does not cover to 1836 or is highly edited or something. It has no references to his Ft. William here on Sauvie Island in Oregon, which I thought was wierd because, well, it was a Fort that he supposedly built! Oh well, better look it up on the weblink.....Thanx!
