From the Harper's Weekly, issue of September 30, 1876.
"THE GREAT CENTENNIAL RIFLE MATCH"The great centennial international long range rifle match for the championship of the world took place at Creedmoor on the 13th and 14th instants and resulted in a grand victory for the American riflemen.Five teams were engaged in the contest, representing Scotland, Ireland, Australia, Canada and America.The contest was won by 22 points by the American team, upon an aggregate score of 3126 out of a possible 3600 points.
The Irish team finished second having 3014; the Scottish and Australian teams tied for 3rd place with a score of 3062 points each, and the Canadian team finished last with the score of 2923 points.I will post more on this past event in the future.
