This took me back. In 1972 my friend Les and I went on what I believe was Arkansas' first "Primitive" firearms (muzzleloading) deer season. It was, IIRC, restricted to the Sylamore Wildlife Management Area near Mountain View. Les had a TC Hawken and I had a cheap FIE "Kentucky" rifle. We were 15 and Les' dad drove us up from Little Rock and left us at Gunner Pool campground. There were only five hunters there. Me, Les, two guys in a camper from Louisiana, and a true old-school buckskinner in a primitive camp. Didn't get a deer, just a skunk before it could let go on us. The old buckskinner showed two awestruck kids some cool tricks. This kind of experience is lost to kids raised on inlines.

I hear you ... those modern inlines have more range and power than the ol' 30-30 lever actions! Interesting to note that of late, that some Western States are banning the use of scopes on the modern inlines, allegedly due to finding too many hit, but not successfully recovered deer/game.

At least PA still recognizes the Longrifle as a primitive arm!

I think PA got it right.
