If a 250 year old hammer has had 5 handles replaced and 3 heads replaced could my 2003 pickup truck be considered my great great great grandfather's wagon he used to haul hay in that's been replaced a few times?

I would say that bare handful of qualified builders may be smaller than you think. How many old time builders were able to pull up information and research on their laptops? And in this day and age most if not all modern builders would have to learn tool techniques used in the Old days. It's not quite apples and apples.

I know of one builder that uses HC methods for building. No electricity or modern tooling. He fordges his own barrels, furniture, locks, triggers, breechplugs, the works.

Has his own sawmil for his blanks. Falls his own timber and drags it up with mules.

Doesn't have a computer and does things his way. His carvings look like manure, just like they looked in the day, scrapes instead of sandpaper.

He even makes his own powder.

Does all this count in the HC thing?

I emailed Bookie about the free instruction on rilfe building he used to give in his shop. He said he no longer builds rifles. I believe he said his hands were no longer steady enough. He now devotes his time and expertise to the subject of rifling barrels. I could KICK myself for not taking advantage of the opportunity to get instruction from him at an earlier time. He is truly a master riflesmith and a real gentleman.

I'll be at martins station 5/22. Too late for events but enjoying the country.
