Honestly, probably the biggest attraction for me is being able to hunt all the doves and quail around me, with my smoothbore, when I get skunked deer hunting 🙂
 
Welcome from TN! I used to be with the Bay Area Mountain Men up north of you. Used to drive down to San Luis Obispo with a buddy and hunt hogs on occasion. I remember it being extremely steep…. and not just the cost of living! Those were some steep hills on the Ft Ord military land we were hunting.
