I found about 30 brass oil cans/ round with a spicket like a powder flask. the cap was screw on with a little chain. I bought them thinking they were fine powder flask for flintlocks??? They were in this antique old cleaning kit with large wooden rods.
They are about 4 1/2" wide with a 3" nose spicket, all brass. Found out later they were 1890's thru WW1 military issue.
My question is: did they have gun oil cans back in the pre-1840's military or CW military?

edit- sorry should of read ENTIRE post before yapping my trap.
