Offering a 20-gauge English style half-stock fowler by Clay Smith. Stock is in a very nice dark walnut, no dings or scratches. As Clay Smith is known for, fit and finish throughout the gun is exceptional. All iron hardware has been browned to match the barrel. Handling is light and this gun just feels balanced and elegant in hand.

The 40-inch barrel is browned, fitted with a silver front sight, and is octagon to round with a nice transition right at the end of the forestock. Bore is bright and shiny, cylinder bore. Barrel is retained by two wedge pins, however the gun does not have a hooked breech. The trigger is relatively light for a single. Lock is an L&R, which has been a reliable sparker for me when I use shorter flints. The L&R is appropriate for an English style gun.

It has patterned well for me at 25-30 yards from 7/8 to 1 1/4 oz of shot, with my preferred load being 1oz shot with 65 gr 2F.

Just under 7.5lbs, overall length 55.5 inches, with 13.75 LOP

Despite his “Grumpy Gunsmith” moniker, Clay is a really nice guy and he’s got great customer service.

I’ve got one of his Type G Carolina trade guns in .58 caliber. Despite the impressively long 48” barrel, it is very light of weight and balances nicely. He uses period correct barrel profiles which were generally quite thin for trade muskets and keeps his guns trim. Two things that make a big difference in making a gun easy to carry in the field.

Your English fowler is beautiful! I love the grain in that walnut.

While the wife complains that I have guns in every room (which is sadly not true) she also reminds me that I don't have to sell any. This is a wonderful gun, but I have a 16-gauge and this one is not seeing much use.

I'd certainly like to see this go to someone who will take it afield, so how about $2600 shipped...

I will be taking this to the Gunmaker's Fair on Saturday the 29th...PM me if you're going to be there and would like to see it.

Still time to take this afield for your fall bird and small game. To help get you started, I will include a new Irish shot snake by October Country. I didn't use this snake, as I got one of their shotgunner's bags with the snake on the strap.
Photos below with all the cards and wads that also go with the gun.
