17th Century Austrian Flintlock with Ottoman Barrel

After the Ottoman defeat at the Siege of Vienna in 1683, there were many captured weapons. The excellent collection at the Vienna Arsenal museum has many on display. The Turks were well regarded for their guns and especially their barrels, so some barrels were taken and stocked in the Western style. This rifle is an example of a "Türkenbeute" or Turkish Loot gun. Built by Johan Georg Bislinger of Munster from about the 1690's.

Very typical of Ottoman guns up until the 19th century. Besides aesthetics I imagine it helps with weight distribution and balance.

I don't believe that the excellent engraver engraved that picture; it would demean his work...looks like it is a pencil drawing anyway? Or perhaps one of the kings kiddos trying to make fun?
