    Bowie Knife

Built this knife a while back. Got the parts from TOTW back when they had the 8" Bowie blades.

    NMLRA Renewal

Just received my NMLRA membership renewal and am a little conflicted this time. I've had some issues with the talk about inlines being permitted. I know the thought of getting more members and all that, but just can't get away from the traditional aspects of shooting traditional muzzleloaders...

    Buckskin Clothing

Are there any people out there who are still making buckskin clothing? There used to be a guy called the "Stitching Scotsman" but I believe he retired. I know "Spotted Pony Traders" do but I was wondering if any others. Can't seem to find any on Google. And oh by the way, I am just NOT...

    TOTW NW Trade Gun

I was looking at the thread about the TOTW Lancaster and I started about their NW Trade Gun kit. Does anyone have any experience with one of these guns? I had been contemplating one of the North Star guns, but of course, that's no longer a possibility. Chris

    Aged Brass

Other than time, what's a good process for making shiny brass look aged? I think I read somewhere that Brass Black works, apply it and then rub back with fine steel wool. Any suggestions? Thanks

    Bear Grease

Other than FROM THE BEAR, where can you get bear grease? I bought a small bottle years ago but have never seen any since. I don't know if it really made much difference, but I won a couple matches using it. Chris

    Rice Barrel and Ball

I have a new rifle with a .54cal Rice swamped barrel. My Hawken with a Douglas XX barrel likes .535 ball with pillow ticking from WallyMart. I haven't been to the range yet, but I was wondering what size ball your rifle likes if it has a Rice barrel. I have some .530 and .535 balls and will try...

    Re-Staining a Stock

I was wondering if there is a good process to restain a stock on a rifle I've had for several years. It's fine the way it is, it's just I'd like a darker stock. Would you need to strip it down, sand, etc? Any suggestions?

Track of the Wolf Northwest Trade Rifle Kit

Does anyone have experience building one of the TOTW Northwest Trade Rifle kits? I was also wondering how the North Star West kit compares. They seem about like they both require about the same experience level and with the options I was looking at on the TOTW, they are about the same in cost.

    Accuracy: Smooth "Rifle" vs "Fowler"

A very long time ago I had a NW Trade Rifle that was .72cal smoothbore. The lengh of pull was a bit short and wasn't real fun to shoot to say the least so I didn't keep it long. (That was over 30 years ago) I got to thinking, is a (example .54cal) smooth rifle more accurate than say a fowler in...

    Velocity and Barrel Length

If you have a load of say 50grs of FFF shooting a .495 RB out of a 34" .50cal barrel at 1200fps, does it take more or less powder to achieve the same 1200fps velocity out of a 44" barrel using the same ball/patch combination?

    Incised Carving

I talking strictly INCISED carving, not raised carving. What's the best tool(s) for getting that thin line for incised carving?

    TVM in the White

For those who have experience with a TVM in the white, how much work is there to finish it? I've seen some others where there's a lot of finishing to do and some others where there's the final sanding and staining and browning. Never heard anything about TVM though.

    Reenactor Black Powder

I met a guy who's been CW reenacting for a while. He's never shot his rifles with a projectile. We are going to go shooting and the only powder he has is reenactor powder. Graf and Sons says you can shoot roundball with it, it burns at lower pressures. I'm assuming you can shoot minies with it...

    Lead Alternatives

I read that California is looking to a total lead ban for all bullets so I got to wondering what could our brethren in that state could turn to. I suppose you could use steel but I would think it would take come dire changes in patching or the use of a sabot. Ballistics would certainly be...

    Chambers Kits

Am contemplating a Chamber's Lancaster and would welcome any constructive opinions on the difficulty/ease of them. Fairly novice wood worker but have tried a couple projects in the past with varying degrees of success. Thanks

    Building a Chambers Lancaster

OK, there's a thread on building a rifle from TOTW. How about the building one of Jim Chambers Lancasters? I bought his DVD and I've read his FAQs on his website which gives me an idea. So I'd like to hear from some of you that have actually built one. :idunno:

    Caplock vs Flint

Since on the flintlock thread it was asked what people preferred, flint or cap, and most prefer flinters there, I was wondering what the response would be on the percussion side. I shoot both and enjoy both about equal.

    4F Powder

When did FFFF come about? Was it commonly used as a priming powder back in the day or was it brought about in our modern times?

    Blunderbuss

Ok, I was watching Locked and Load on the History channel last night. They were shooting a blunderbuss and when the guy loaded it, he poured the powder and then added the roundballs and used a little skinny ramrod to "pack" it down. I didn't see him use any kind of over powder wad or anything...
