SOLD LYMAN Great Plains Hunter rifle 50 Cal. perc.

I listed this rifle here back last fall and while it generated some positive comments it never sold. It's been sitting back on my workbench and as the weather gets nicer, even if I never hunt with it I'm going to be very tempted to load her up and shoot it some. While it's nice and clean I'd...

Wanted - parts Lyman GPR rear sight

While it may not appear as original as you’d like, the Lyman 16AML is made to order for these rifles . If you go this route you may want to replace the front also with a bead . Lyman’s website will suggest the front sight they recommend for use with the 16.

    Wool wads

If you put them on the powder how can you be sure they’re lying flat and not turned edgewise in the seating process?

    Wool wads

I’m going to be trying some wool wads with no excuses bullets in both a TC Renegade and a CVA Accura MR. Both are 50 caliber. Should I use 50 or 54 caliber wads (I’ve read both ways) and how do you attach them to bottom of bullets?

SOLD Price Reduced Again 54 Caliber Thompson Center Renegade

Don’t know where you folks get your information but it’s NOT against the law to ship long guns or muzzleloaders through USPS . Regular guns would have to be shipped to an FFL holder but muzzleloaders can be shipped to individual in most places.

Williams Peep Sights on T/C Hawken

I’m assuming you’re still using the original front sight? If that’s true then you’re probably going to have to replace it with a taller blade. That’s not an uncommon requirement when switching to peep sights. If you call the folks at Williams they may even be able to tell you what height you...

I Told a Big, Fat Lie a Couple of Weeks Ago

Hmmm. I’ve been around for a good while……but I haven’t been on this forum but for a short while, so I’m curious as to just which part of your post was a lie, or was the whole thing just a fabrication for our entertainment? It was entertaining btw. 🥴

    Powder RE packaging

Well, one could do that but when there’s a possibility of breakage I believe I’d rather there was BP in the jar than acetone. Thanks for your brainstorming anyway.

    Powder RE packaging

Well here’s the final result before labeling and after. I think it’ll be safe in these.

    Powder RE packaging

I’ll be most happy to oblige Notchy Bob. A cyber acquaintance is mailing me the cans and as soon as they arrive I’ll be making the switch. Stay tuned. 😀

    Powder RE packaging

Just a big whoosh! No explosion. It’s got to be under pressure to explode.

    Powder RE packaging

These I’m intending to use are empty Accurate powder cans. Should be fine. I’ve taken detailed pictures of the Goex cans, printed them off on card stock to be clear taped as labels on the new cans.

    Powder RE packaging

Thanks for all your thoughts and suggestions. I have 3 or 4 empty smokeless cans coming from a friend so with new labels I think problem eliminated.

wisdom vs. experience... or, today I learned...

Good judgment comes from experience, and most of that comes from bad judgement! 🥴

    Powder RE packaging

Well I still have some smokeless in the metal cans too so you’re right I’m not doing nearly as much as I used to. Old age and arthritis will alter your priorities!🥴 The soda bottles don’t seem durable enough but that’s a direction of thought that hadn’t occurred to me before. Thanks

    Powder RE packaging

I got into BP / muzzleloading 25-30 years ago and as did several others I’m guessing sort of took a hiatus from the BP when the inlines and different substitutes came along. Now I’m sort of backtracking and find that I have 4 or 5 older cans of Goex 2 and 3 F that are starting to rust...

Bead Fronts Sights For Great Plains Rifles

I read a piece some time ago suggesting that the Skinner front post worked better for the writer than the couple of different beads he’d tried. You just have to file it down until the height is right for your peep.

    WANTED Lyman Peep Sight

Have you mounted the Pedersoli yet? Very anxious to hear your feedback after using it. I have a Renegade with the TC tang mounted peep (not the flip up one) and have been well satisfied. I also have the 57GPR on my Lyman and while it works fine, especially with the Merit adjustable aperture...
