    20 percent more powder?

I myself haven't heard that but I do recall reading on a label of 777 that I do believe they say to reduce the charge 20% by volume for an equal amount of other muzzle loading propellants. Is this possibly what you're referring to?

    RWS 1075 Percussion Caps

I second that. Recently bought my avatar picture 1863 pocket model from them and shipping was fast and there was no BS involved. Every bit as good as Midway.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Shot my North American arms super companion. Two full cylinders of 5 rounds each and I had 100% ignition using CCI number 11s. But after the first two rounds on each cylinder there was a jam towards the bottom of the frame with the spent cap. Requiring some fidgeting before shot number three...

    RWS 1075 Percussion Caps

My experience has been the opposite with my super companion. The RSW tend to have quite a few misfires but the CCI number 11's have very few. Now for all my other cap and balls the rsws are 100%

NAA percussion pistol, the full cap and ball experience in a small package!

When I was a complete noob to black powder and specifically cap and ball.... I used pure Crisco which was a joke, did nothing but make a big mess. Now I use about 75% pure beeswax and the remainder being Crisco melted on low heat in a tuna can on the stove. Works pretty good but the next batch...

    My first .36 revolver

I have the 1863 Remington pocket model that I recently purchased from muzzleloaders.com I just looked out of curiosity about 24 hours ago and the brass frame one that I bought is out of stock but they do have the nickel plated brass frame in stock for 80 more dollars at $430 Try as I might I...

NAA percussion pistol, the full cap and ball experience in a small package!

I take a tiny dollop of my homemade bullet lube consisting of about 75% pure beeswax and the remainder being Crisco and put over the top of the conical bullet when I load my super companion. Of course there's not much room for any lube but a little bit. Are you shooting the proprietary conicals...

NAA percussion pistol, the full cap and ball experience in a small package!

Yowza !!! Glad it wasn't worse. What do you think may have caused the chain fire? I only had one chain fire in my life and it was most unusual because it was an 1858 and the chamber that chain fired was not the neighboring one but the one completely opposite. I was uninjured but certainly...

    Beeswax

I bought some pure beeswax ingots off of Amazon and I make bullet lube for my cap and balls by melting about 75% pure beeswax and an empty tuna can on a burner on low and I put about 25% Crisco with it. So far it's worked for me. I live in Southwest Florida and I have a honey processing plant...

NAA percussion pistol, the full cap and ball experience in a small package!

I have the super companion and I also get misfires. Getting misfires with the rsws and the Winchester magnums and Remington number 10s. Was having the same problem with my 1863 pocket model but the CCI number 11's have thus far proven 100% reliable with about 40 rounds through it. Haven't tried...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Shot my 1858 on my friend's private property on the Peace River. He has a mound down by the river that we shoot into. I have another friend that lives about a half mile up the river on the other side and I called him on my phone and told him to go out on his porch and listen and tell me if he...

    Traditional M/L Guns from India

I understand muzzleloading gun uses still very much prevalent in India.

    Possible build?

Inline style versus a side lock. Which design would be more simple to build. You know, like a cap and ball style where the nipple is directly in front of the hammer and in line behind the load?
  14. SwampBilly

    Possible build?

I considered boring it out to make a shot pistol. Or patched round ball

    Possible build?

Not really sure. It came from a beat up old Hawken style rifle. I'm thinking leaving it as long as practical would be best right?

2024 cap update, bad and the bad

And have even seen cap gun caps disappear out of the local dollar stores for about the last seven or eight years. So out of curiosity I went to Amazon to see if they sell them and if they have hazmat shipping. I could not find any on Amazon but they do have matches which I believe they ship...

2024 cap update, bad and the bad

I did the exact same thing as you last year at the local Walmart. Remember to start checking around the end of July or early August.

New Uberti 1861 Navy from Midway. Buyer Beware!

I prefer a gun with a stationary rear sight and one that you don't have to damn near take down all the way to reload and it doesn't seem to be cursed with a cylinder Gap as often as not.... Actually having a frame above the cylinder is just icing on the cake. :) And I have owned a Colt type...

New Uberti 1861 Navy from Midway. Buyer Beware!

That is why I think the Remington design is far superior.
