    Taylor Uberti better than Uberti?

My pietta 1860 army .44 worked PERFECT right outta the box. I never expected such a high quality firearm from italy for $240ish to be perfect yet it is. I keep ot loaded 24/7 and it if very consistently even after sitting 2 months with caps and all. Hardly clean it (use 777). It's a great...

Do I need a filler for a 20 grain charge in a .44 cal. Cylinder?

That's pietta 1860 army .44 using 20 grain 777 with .454 / 140 grain RB. Fun! Use left thumb for practicing point blank shootings of multiple targets. Thanks trooper JR Funk!

Do I need a filler for a 20 grain charge in a .44 cal. Cylinder?

True on 777. That's all I use with homemade magnum caps. Kinda hard to ignite with reg caps. I found 777 15%-20% hotter. I use 20 grain for target and 40 grain for "everything else". 40 grain 777 easily equal to 45 grain reg BP, probably more like 50 grain BP. I only use 777 for more power...

    Antiquing percussion revolvers

Yeah. It is tough cloth and some stretchy tough holder made for a hammer that works for me. I carry everything in it except the all-in-one powder/measure flask. Even the cleaning kit and needle nose fit in it. Worn at waist works even better. Might wanna look in hardware dept at Lowes. Good...

    Antiquing percussion revolvers

It's embarrassing but works its a hypertouch work pouch. And yes and you'll laugh at me but hey, it was just hanging around and I got to thinking. I'm sure I'll get flamed on this one... Material is cloth with a spandex type holder for revolver (originally a hammer). Much fits in the 2...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

This is not directed to anyone. Just a general BE CAREFUL. Last night I blew a hole in my porch rotating cylinder to safety pin on revolver (see the irony). Yep, THANKFULLY (God intervened) bullet went under guard rail and out into yard so it's rather unnoticeable. Missed my left boot by about...

    Antiquing percussion revolvers

BTW when I looked at picture I saw a nice holster a belt knife and a gun. Must be the viewer looking for the "junk" in the jeans. Just saying... Ps. Don't get feathers all ruffled, you said you wanted to have fun and not get serious. So there. Lol!

    Antiquing percussion revolvers

Like the holster. Need to get some utility pouches to be complete. I'm no one to talk I use a hypertough hammer pouch as a holster for 1860 colt. The hypertough has pouches built in for nails. I use for bullets and such. Lol. To top it off I use an old army belt and run it through the pouch...

    Wads in Pietta 1858

I apologize much of that didn't pertain to the subject of OP. I suppose you could take from it one dry wad works well for sealing and storage fully loaded as well as for preventing chainfires. 777 is a beast but hard to ignite. Btw I make my own caps. I highly recommend dry veggie wads...

    Wads in Pietta 1858

Here the first shot is 40 grain 777 3f, dry wad on powder w/.454 and lube over ball. Remainder were 30 grains 777. U can see difference in first shot. Im Practicing my opposite thumb hammer cock for faster shooting. Been trying to get down the left thumb cock for faster shooting (I'm right...

    Wads in Pietta 1858

I bought a 1000 bag of veggie wads in the .454 sized variety. They are dry and these are thin but tough. I don't use lube on them due to possibly filling filling powder the wads are sitting on. So far as I can tell they really are just dry filler to help keep chainfire possibility at zero. But...

    Wads in Pietta 1858

Lol @ black powder rabbit hole. Yeah, there's a process and couple tools but it's nothing that can't be overcome with a small belt setup or cargo pants. I can do it all with a piece of wood, needle nose plyers and belt knife. My field cleaning kit fits in a tampon sized handle. EVERYTHING fits...

    Wads in Pietta 1858

I use the rod to gently guide and lightly pack the powder with the .44 wad. Then after wad holds powder I set .454 ball leaving a sliver of lead. So I do not know how the wad is after ball is set but before ball the wad touches chamber walls. I try not to pack the powder to much. Very...

New to black powder. Looking for accessories or necessities

All you need is powder and caps. Truly the rest is optional, although will make cleaning and shooting easier. Recommend a duel purpose flask/ powder measure. Mine is from midway USA dispenses 20 grain volume and holds ¼ pound. It's cheap and bargain basement item. You can use small needle...

Field/Farm Use of Cap & Ball Revolver

I cannot get my hands on ANY percussion caps (other then DIY). The caps to me are the only problem with any consistency. Would love to find a dealer selling remington #10. Cabellas keeps sending email informing in stock to which they're not. I just broke down and began making own. 1st one...

Field/Farm Use of Cap & Ball Revolver

Not trying to be argumentative but I own a replica Colt 1860 army .44 steel frame, open top and I keep loaded for months on end for home defense and once in awhile I'll go outback and check it. I've found as long as you keep firearm in home no major humidity and seal the end with a wax type...

    wad lube

Loading order for colt .44 revolver: 20-25 grain 777 powder THEN 1/16th dry fiber wad THEN round ball THEN lube (light coat over bullet) LASTLY dry wad. This encases lube over bullet for weather not allowing powder on bottom to be effected and seals chamber end for many reasons. It's the same...
