    Mac & Cheese

Forget mashed potatoes, have them creamed. Mash the potatoes with a fork. Add a good dollop of butter and when mixed add a handful of grated Cheddar cheese and mustard to taste. Mix well with the fork and serve. Low calorie too.

Is it a camera fault or are the lands convex?

    Targets; Opinions wanted

I use paper plates and add a ½” red dot in the approximate centre and add a black sharpie dot in the centre. Don’t use them for food afterwards as they leak.

Help with Belgian proof marks on a big bore percussion muzzleloader.

With my old eyes it looks like UB with a damaged stamp.

    Proof marks

You must be in a difficult situation. Since there are no caps about you cannot fire them. However, if you have been very clever and bought a flint lock, you are no better off as there is no powder about either. But! If you have a nice long arm, you can hold it at the muzzle and use it as a club.

    Barrel marking

It looks nice, but somewhat expensive. I think the buyer premium kills it. I picked up my first No. 4 Mk 2 (or 1) in 1954 and never had to pay for weapons or ammunition until 1970. It all became a bit more expensive since then. Pretty girls and pretty guns…..

    Proof marks

Yes. I suppose double stack muzzle loaders are quite rare. I have suddenly changed fonts.

    Barrel marking

I bought a cape gun last year. It is a 12g .55 ml. It has different sized nipples. I certainly wouldn’t fire it.

Stay away from black powder, Gordon. It will only make it worse. Nice Grandson.

    Proof marks

The research Press article is interesting, but why does the King’s Mark have the Queen’s Crown? Another anomaly of barrel markings.

    Barrel marking

It has had a lot of lead through it, judging by the condition of the sights. The bubble on the front sight is missing and the inserts are ‘different’. Slightly smaller than Pedersoli inserts and held in by a dimpled, sprung lever. The tang sight is on a square rod which is held in with a screw...

    Barrel marking

The sight is even more interesting. I haven’t wanted to enlarge on my original query as it is an unmentionable and should not be discussed here, but it is a thing of beauty. This is the full set of proof marks.

    Barrel marking

It is on an unmentionable. The tang sight drops into a square hole.

None of these have a crown. That helps as the information that I have on British proof marks all have the Queen’s crown on them. I have not seen the ones on your list. Thanks for that.

    Barrel marking

The nearest that I could find is the Birmingham 1868-1925 definitive black powder proof for shotguns. But there is no crown on the mark and it isn’t a shotgun. It has the crown over BNP proof mark. It only appears on the barrel and nowhere else. Could it be a provisional for the barrel?

    Barrel marking

I was asked if I knew what this mark is on the barrel of a gun. I thought it could be a manufacturers logo, but I am not sure. Can anyone identify it?

Colonial marksmen, via the 'London Paper', circa 1775

A very interesting piece of American history is that of the Fenian Brotherhood’s invasion of Canada. Google it. You will be impressed.

Colonial marksmen, via the 'London Paper', circa 1775

So. The question is:- was the war of independence America trying to get rid of the English, or The English trying to get rid of the Americas? After WWii didn’t one of your generals say, “With American technology and British troops, I could rule the world.”? How different things could have been.

    Denatured Alcohol

During my time as a photographer in the Royal Air Force, I spent some time working on a bulk film processing machine. To help the film dry, after washing it went through a 60:40 solution of meths/water. After an hour there was a funny taste in my mouth and after two hours, I had to be replaced...
