    Elk calling

Hocchy Momma is probably the best thing to use, and use it sparingly. To many people trying to use calls of different types, and doing so poorly can do more to move elk to another drainage, than the orange men if full head to toe blaze orange in their ATV's running every road/trail they can...

    Bullet casting/sizing advice welcome...

If loading the first round isn't a problem, but the second shot is a problem, it's not the alloy or bullet size. The problem is coming from powder fouling. You may find a heavier charge burns cleaner. Might want to consider using a different lube. Wiping between shots will definitely cure a...

WANTED All the lead seems to have disappeared :(

Buffalo Arms and Rotometals both have a good variety of casting alloys from pure lead to hardball on hand

    Sharps failures. Suggestions?

If a good cleaning and clearing of the nipple and firing channel doesn't fix the problem, chances are pretty good the main spring is weak. IAB's aren't known for high quality.

    Black powder or Pyrodex

If you can't find a club locally that shoots blackpowder, or some out of the way shop that sells blackpowder and supplies in a short distance drive, then your best bet would be to place a 5 lb order thru Graf's. Looking at their web page this morning that would land you 5 lbs of Graf's/Schuetzen...

So you could always save the shipping and ffl transfer and go to Big Timber and pick it up in person....

Can you ship a percussion Sharps through the USPS?

I have a friend that owns a UPS store. He tells me it's UPS corporate regulations that require shipping to an ffl. Keep in mind Shiloh is a federal licensed manufacturer that ships rifles on a daily basis. The OP has already paid the deposit, and the balance due on the rifle when it went into...

If I wanted a buffalo rifle.....

Just about any 50 or 54 caliber flintlock would be representative of a rifle carried in the plains pre1860’s. But that’s not to say smaller calibers weren’t present The Buffalo hide trade reached its peak after its the civil war and was short lived. Remington rollers were sort of the AK of the...

    Cow Elk Load

Absolutely nothing. This cow elk thing has come mostly from internet experts that may have seen an elk on vacation with their folks in Yellowstone, and gun writers, and other with precious little experience with em... Elk take can take a lot of punishment or not, but once their skinned and...

    lead melting pots recommendation

The Lyman magnum 25 pot with the built in PID works extremely well. Altho the temperature setting on it and my lead thermometer did not agree, but after i figured out the difference between the two all has been well. It works very well for either ladle or bottom pouring, and you don't have to...

Is there a manufacturer of black powder ammo. Want to buy a original spencer rifle, but don’t want to reload rim fire cartridges.

The only option you have for that rifle would be to replace the block with a centerfire block.

Performance difference between Goex & Swiss powder ?

A straight forward comparison of red can Goex to Swiss has to be done fairly if you drop a charge of red can goex on a sheet of paper and then the same charge of Swiss in the same f size you will notice the Swiss is screened to a smaller size. So that means you need to go to a smaller f size...

    GOEX POWDER, ANY NEWS YET?

Bear River has a shipment of red can Goex,so other dealers should be getting some as well.

    Green River black powder??

It was real powder . I don’t recall now who it was they had it made by. But rest assured it was true powder and not the stuff with fake smoke added

    LOOKING FOR BUFFALO TONGUE RECIPES.

Boil it in lightly salted water ,the peel it. Then you can season and bake it or put in the smoker. After it’s cooked slice thin and soak in dill pickle juice fore a few hours ,eat it on home made bread and butter not a liver fan but soak it in water and rinse until the blood is mostly...

    300 FPS Difference............

The 2f Schuetzen and Swiss with it's smaller kernel size will have more propellant behind the ball than the larger sized red can Goex, hence the higher velocity. But velocity is only a number comparison, the number comparison that matters is the measurement of the group size.
  19. Ranch 13

    300 FPS Difference............

Due to the different screen sizes used in Goex red can, and the imported powders, a true comparison can't be made unless, you use 3f Goex against 2f import's.

    Open iron sights or peep.

For pure accuracy shooting bughole sized groups a guality peep sight with an aperture large enough to let light in and paired with a front sight that is meant for target shooting is the best. For hunting I'll take an open rear sight with a good blade or post every time.
