    Good books on 1750-1790 period?

In searching for A New Age Now Begins, I came across this book also. I found it at Amazon .com. It is called A Narrative of a Revolutionary Soldier by Joseph Plumb Martin. Just might pick this one up too!

    Good books on 1750-1790 period?

Rise to Rebellion was a fantastic book! While a historical novel, like all of the other Shaara books, it nevertheless is based largely on historical 'fact'. Reading this book was a great awakening for me - it made me realize that I actually knew very little indeed about the American Revolution...

    Good books on 1750-1790 period?

I just recently finished Wilderness War on the Ohio. Overall a very good book which sheds another perspective on the Revolutionary era in the Ohio country. It was written from the British point of view and sheds a different light on folks like the Girty brothers, Alexander McKee, and Mathew...

    Eckert???

Eckert is my favorite writer! That Dark and Bloody River is an outstanding read. If I recall, The Court Martial of Daniel Boone was more "novelized" than his other books and was essentially written for youth, thus a little more simple and definitely not as in depth as his Winning of America...

    Antler Primer

Lots of good suggestions here. I used one of the 3 grain push type dispensers - got it at Log Cabin Shop at about the same price as the TOTW link. Here's the finished product, made from an elk antler tip with my trusty Dremel.

    The Bastard Gun, Part 2

Zonie, Fabulous work. As a minimum, if you don't sell them, be sure to make provision in your will that they are taken care of - family, a museum, whatever. I wish I had half the talent represented by these works of art!

    Types of leather

Amazing! I was just thinking about asking a question about leather and this thread shows up. However, my question (and I am exposing my ignorance here)has to do with the different types of tanning. What is the difference between brain, smoke, vegetable, chrome tanning?

    What's your favorite Lube?

Thanks Stumpy - never would have thought of that! Re: Ballistol. Some (make that many) claim that it does stink. To me it is a smell that grows on you (kind of like BP?), so it is not offensive to me at all. In fact, I kind of like it.

    Patch diameter for a .50?

Currently cutting at the muzzle. However, I used to trace and cut my patches using the cap of a GOEX can. worked real well for both my .45 and .50.

    What's your favorite Lube?

I had been using Bore Butter and Wonderlube 1000 for a couple of years. Recently tried Stumpy's Moose Snot and Moose Milk. Last several trips to the range I have used pillow ticking strips soaked in MM then hung to dry, and cut at the muzzle. I like it a lot - I'm not sure if I am getting any...

'Nuther New Guy with New Gun & Same Old Questions

Thanks for mentioning hearing protection Charlie. I was beginning to think no one was going to point out that hearing protection is also very important, right up there with eye protection.

anyone know specs of killdeer in last of mohicans

Allan Eckert's Winning of America series has been re-published by the Jesse Stuart Foundation of Ashland, Kentucky. All six books in the series are available at The Log Cabin Shop in Lodi, Ohio. Like several others, these books, along with Eckert's Dark and Bloody River (one of my all time...

    your forum user name/handle

Picked mine up years ago from a co-worker who used it as the name of his bowling team. Thought it was unique and not likely to be duplicated. Just try reading it backwards!

    Cleaning patches

I buy white flannel at the fabric store and cut into 2.5" x 2.5" pieces. Only takes about 15-20 minutes to cut a yard of material and yields 200-300 patches for a couple of bucks.

    pillow ticking

I use Wal-Mart pillow ticking, the red&white kind - it is easier to find your used patches down range as not too many folks use the red & white. After maching washing once and air drying, I cut into strips that each have 4 red stripes (no measuring etc). I then trace and cut round patches using...
