    Cleaning tool

I'm also one of those waterless cleaning guys. I use a patch wetted with a 50/50 mix of Murphy's Oil Soap and alcohol. Usually takes about five patches and the bore is clean. Same method for the outside. Been doing this way for 20+ years. No rust.

    My thoughts/opinions on cap making

I used maybe a half teaspoon of the IMR 4064 in a 7 ounce bottle of acetone fingernail polish remover. I've got powder goo in the bottom that would not absorb into the acetone. When the acetone gets used down I plan to add to the existing. That may take a while though.

    My thoughts/opinions on cap making

I mixed up a batch of the priming compound last night, enough to load up 15 caps. I used the acetone fingernail polish remover from the dollar store. I dumped in what I had left over of the IMR 4064 but I believe it was more than I needed. It has about a quarter inch of a goo sludge in the...

    My thoughts/opinions on cap making

Thank you for the follow up on the powder for binder. I've got a good amount of IMR 4350 and about a tea spoon full left in a bottle of IMR 4064 that would be a good candidate for the project.

    My thoughts/opinions on cap making

Thanks for the insight. My daughter has made caps from the 22 reloader but the binder they supply doesn't work that well. We'll give this a try.

    My thoughts/opinions on cap making

If you guys don't mind sharing, how much of your single base smokeless do you use in the acetone? Is there a preferred ratio or are you just using a saturated solution of powder/acetone?

    Long range shooting

I have a half of an oxygen cylinder hanging down my back ditch line. I ranged it at 113 yards with my range finder. I hit it about 50% of the time. Sometimes one out of three shots and sometimes two out of three. At that distance the wind will noticeably shift the ball off to the side. With...

Leaving a flintlock loaded for 7 days

I noticed a couple things that he could have done to help himself. I don't believe he plugged the touch hole before letting it set out overnight, three days or a week. I only saw once where he stuck a vent pick in the vent was when he couldn't get it to go off. I usually pick the vent every...

    Made myself some hats

I for one would support a thread on how you make your hats. They really look great.

    Bore brush?

I remember the Fuller Brush guy coming around about 50 or 60 years ago. Mostly sold cleaning stuff.

Suddenly started getting pan flash ?

You said it has a patent breach. My Lyman does too and there is about a half inch at the bottom that is smaller diameter than the barrel. It goes from a .50 in the barrel to about a .45 or .40 within the breach. Check to see if your cleaning jag is going all the way down to the vent. I had...
