How far down do you clean?

I am a firm believer in Ballistol. I never strip down revolvers unless something is not working. I clean a lot and keep everything wet with Ballistol. Never have had any rust or problems. But you do you.

    Arbor Problem?

The short arbor affects accuracy or what I should say is point of aim. Depending on how far you drive the wedge in , it will change your point of aim. Not a huge problem but every time you have it apart and put the wedge in it can be a little different.

    .225-32 tap

I have an update from the email I sent to Lodgewood. They said they don’t carry them anymore because they lost their supplier. Hopefully this will help some one else.

    New in 1856

I was shooting at dirt at about 75 yards. I shot two cylinders tonight and was just happy it worked good. I Will have to try it on an actual target the next couple days.

    New in 1856

I received the new nipples from Track today. I turned about .010 off the length so that the hammer would not hit them. They are the same length as the ones that were in it and it shoots like a new gun. The nipples from Track were advertised as fitting #11 caps and they fit very well with...

    .225-32 tap

To get the last two out, I clamped 2 drill bits that fit tight in cylinder into vise as seen in picture. I placed my nipple wrench on the nipple and applied light pressure, while tapping downward on top of wrench with a small hammer. They popped loose immediately. I feel like I won the lottery...

    .225-32 tap

Well, looks like I won’t need a tap after all. I have been soaking the cylinder for a week in Liquid Wrench and alternating between warming with a heat gun and freezing by setting it outside. The threads look great. When I got the nipples out, I screwed a .22 caliber cleaning brush through the...

I have shot it but the nipples are kinda burned out. They are opened up enough that the hammer kicks back. I ordered new ones from Track.

    .225-32 tap

That’s probably the route I will have to go.

    New in 1856

I bought this 1849 Colt Pocket at a local gun show last week for $550. Finish is a little rough but the gun is tight. I couldn’t be happier. Bore is super and everything functions perfectly. The sad thing is about a month ago I bought a Uberti replica for a couple hundred less. If I would have...

    .225-32 tap

A 12-32 is 2.16” . Colt revolvers are.225-32. It might work for cleaning threads though. I would like to find the right one, but this might work, thanks.

    .225-32 tap

I am sure this may have come up before but here goes. I did a search on the forum and couldn't find anything. I am trying to find a .225-32 tap for old colt nipples. I am in the process of trying to loosen up the nipples in an original 1849 Colt Pocket and would like to find a tap in case I need...

    Remington caps

Well I did that. And it wasn’t helpful. That’s when I sent an email asking why I can’t find caps. Here is the response I received.

    Remington caps

Sent an email inquiring about cap availability to Remington and this is the answer I got. I read it over a few times and couldn’t quite decipher it.

    REGARDING 1862 5-SHOT POLICE MODELS?

    I think that is actually a full size. Like an1851 or 1861 with a short barrel. Wait for a 1849 or a 1862 .

    .31 caliber revolvers

Well try and put a Walker in your pocket. That might change your mind. Also, pockets were bigger in the old days.

    REGARDING 1862 5-SHOT POLICE MODELS?

I just bought a 1849. From what I understand it is the same action. I put Slixshot nipples on and smoothed out the hammer and it made a big difference. Still have an occasional cap jam, but not too worried about it. I think it works pretty darn good.
