New Toy / Ruger Old Army

I think you missed my statement. The hammer was striking only the left side of the frame. It actually beat a chunk of metal from frame. Shimming it to the right temporarily fixed the ignition. A very knowledgeable ROA guy sent me a new hammer. Works like a charm and does not hit left side of...

New Toy / Ruger Old Army

Funny to see this post still receiving comments. My ignition problems were a result of the hammer striking the frame before reaching the nipple. I shimmed the hammer and no issues. I have since found a replacement hammer and all is good. Seems my gun show revolver had been monkeyed with quite a...

    A Loaf of Beeswax

Probably Shoulda tried mink oil huh? Oh well, I never was considered a bright lad. Thanks for your recipe anyway. I may have gotten confused with waterproofing canvas formula. 1 equal part of all three. Who knows it might work out afterall. I'll know in a few days. It's still tacky after several...

    Fed-Ex Truck Just Drove Away

Bragging or overthinking? Probably a little of both. If I don't toot my own horn nobody else will. Actually I'm trying to find a 32 load for my rifle that will not blow a squirrel apart. The barrel is still breaking in so I need to shoot it a bit more and when I settle on a load, file the sight...

    Fed-Ex Truck Just Drove Away

Yeah, I worded it poorly. I really needed fffg and wanted to try Olde Enysford. They were out of the Goex O.E. fffg, So I ordered the Grafs and beefed up my Swiss also. Trying to build my stash and compare a few powders in the process.

    Fed-Ex Truck Just Drove Away

He dropped off a box from Graf & Sons. I've been shooting Swiss ffg and fffg in my rifles and handgun. My last order was mostly ffg. I didn't know fffg was used in 45, 50 and 54 until I joined this forum. I ordered Swiss again in both grades, but also picked up Olde Eynsford ffg for my conicals...

    A Loaf of Beeswax

Just made a batch of leather treatment, water proofing all in one grease. Mixed 1 part beeswax, with 3 parts boiled linseed and turpentine 50/50. Made a nice grease that's going to be a bit slower drying than my Hubberds. The turpentine isn't as strong as a pitch blend. I put it on a couple old...

    Browning Mountain Rifle Question

I've seen a few guns from time to time where someone would put a little gold or even white paint in the lettering to make it pop. Some folks really like that sort of thing. If you gun was done this way and If you don't care for it a little alcohol and a tooth pick might clear it out pretty easily.

Colt 1860 2nd Gen VS Ruger Old Army

Bravo 4-4 Its kinda like red heads, blonds and brunettes. The worst I ever kissed was mighty sweet until they malfunctioned. I'm new to shooting these weapons, but I know what I like and when I'm wrong I fall in love with a new gun anyway, so all is well. You gotta figure out what you like. My...

Kaido 255 grain conical / Old Army

swathdiver I'm getting a crash course education in Ruger grips. Saw quite a few mods posted on various forums back in the cowboy action rage days. Think Ill mix and match grips from what I can find laying around and see if any make significant difference. Thanks for the stimulus. It'll probably...

Not sure I know what you are describing but I'll look at it. I've got an old set of pachmeyer rubber grip for Super Blackhawk maybe they would fit.

Zone your right, but it's not sporting. Leaving the parts would make em fly on a beeline for the bullseye. I ain't one to cheat or tell lies.

Kaido 255 grain conical / Old Army

M.D. I owe you another thanks. When I fully slanted my front site to gather even light it made world of difference. I had a 1862 Colt 2nd model back in my gun showing days. It sat on table for a year before I sold it. B.P. stuff back then was almost impossible to get rid of in that environment...

Kaido 255 grain conical / Old Army

Yes Sir, I think so. Pretty happy. I picked up the Colt 1860 years ago in a gun trade. I was going to start my B.P. pistol shooting with it last year, but then read where they all shoot high and need front site change and all that. Thought when I purchased ROA that would be non issue then of...

    A Loaf of Beeswax

I was thinking it would also be good for sealing wood arrowshafts. I've used pure boiled linseed on stocks and arrows to seal. Longer drying time but eventually a nice heavy finish that touches up real easy. Tru oil much quicker and easier for nice finish, but I prefer linseed.
