72 cal Pedersoli Double rifle - new purchase and testing - custom bullet

Hello rickystl, Thanks for the reply, I started playing with these Pedersoli black powder double rifles about 30 years ago when they were first introduced. In most cases, the slow twist rate of these barrels are designed for patched round ball. Since projectiles are stabilized by "length" not...

72 cal Pedersoli Double rifle - new purchase and testing - custom bullet

Hello AlanG. Thanks for the reply. Yes, I actually went as high as 160g 3Fg with the 535g hollow base bullet, but there was no increase in velocity so I went back to 150g. For the 695g solid base bullet, I went up to 130g 3Fg, but again no increase in velocity over 120g 3Fg, so that's what I...

72 cal Pedersoli Double rifle - new purchase and testing - custom bullet

Hello Stantheman86, Thanks for the reply. That wouldn't be very smart. Recoil energy of my bullet and load is 63 ft/lbs of energy. Pulling both triggers at one would equal 260.7 ft/lbs of energy. That's 4-times the recoil. That's hospital recoil.

72 cal Pedersoli Double rifle - new purchase and testing - custom bullet

Hello Stantheman86, Thanks for the reply. I actually believe 2 barrels are better than one. Much more of a challenge than a single barrel. As a follow-up to my shooting, it took me 1-1/2 hours to clean this thing. This was purchased used, and the former owner must not have done a good job of...

72 cal Pedersoli Double rifle - new purchase and testing - custom bullet

Hello BIGBEAR, Thanks for the reply. I started using the "bump-out" method about 40 years ago. So I guess I sort of invented it. Comes from my Mechanical Design Engineering background. I actually waited a few days after someone posted a "head-up" about the rifle. After researching how much...

72 cal Pedersoli Double rifle - new purchase and testing - custom bullet

Hello BIGBEAR. Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure. It's kind of a guess. If the bullet is too large, it will be tight and more difficult to load. You will also see that when you order, you have to specify the mold tolerance; "size +.002" or "size -.002". I chose the "size +.002" for my...

72 cal Pedersoli Double rifle - new purchase and testing - custom bullet

Hello BIGBEAR, Thanks for the reply. My bullet is shown on page 23 - mold number 73-679SN You will see the notation: "Basis for hollow base nose pour. Hollowing pin must be outsourced" You will have to make your own base pins if you want to make both solid and hollow base bullets. If you...

72 cal Pedersoli Double rifle - new purchase and testing - custom bullet

Hello BigSkyRambler, Thanks for the reply. Yes, I did get a great deal. That's the only reason I bought it. I wasn't looking for a BP double, but I couldn't resist the great price. Hello Rat, Thanks for the reply. I've designed many bullets over the years, for both muzzle-loaders and...
