    .40 For Deer

Yeah to answer your question why a 40, is mostly because I'm wondering the effectiveness of the caliber. I don't have a 40 yet but I do have a 36 that I really like the weight of but is not legal to hunt with so I figured no harm in making an informed decision before I buy one. It kind of...

    Percussion to Flint

Yeah my rifle is a "semi-costum" gun and it looks along the lines of the second picture. So I guess I need to find out the thread size and count to get a vent liner then get a lock to match.

    .40 For Deer

What would you say is the max distance you could take a deer with a 40 is at. Assuming the accuracy is there. I'm thinking with a patch round ball, 70 grains 3fff to be about 75 yds.

    Percussion to Flint

It does have a screw in bolster so I'll provably go that route. Thanks

    .40 For Deer

I recently moved to Alabama and here .40 cal is the minimum legal caliber for deer. So what's y'alls opinion on using a .40 cal for deer. I do have a Hatfield .50 I'm going to use for hogs but,I think it would be nice to have a lighter gun for deer. Anyways give your opinion. Thanks

Hammer position while hunting with a percussion rifle

Thanks to all of you for the help. Usually I put my rifle on half clock but, I do like the thick leather between the hammer and cap idea. I will agee with you on muzzle discipline. Never point a firearm, muzzleloader or modern at anything you are not willing to destroy...

Triple ought buckshot in 36 caliber

I use 00 1/2 (.340) in my 36 with no issues. They are softer than wheel weights. And just a touch harder than pure lead. You can get the 00 1/2 at ballistic products.com 8lb for 36.90. I always found triple 000 to be to tight in my gun. Hope this helps. BlackpowerBilly

    Reboring a rifle barrel

I really do not think so it's a fairly small barrbel. By the way I have decided not to rebore the barrel just it case it is a more valuable gun than i thought. Thanks for all the help just the same.

    Reboring a rifle barrel

It is a possibility the rifle was bought in Ohio.

    Reboring a rifle barrel

It is very plain, I do not think it's made by "the" R Driesbach. Sorry I cannot upload a pic because my device will not let me, have tried several times.

    Reboring a rifle barrel

    Reboring a rifle barrel

It is 36 cal. right now. And truth be told I do not know who made it. The only markings on the gun are R. Driesbach and under the barrel the words "old reliable".

    Reboring a rifle barrel

Well one reason I am going to try to go with 45cal. is because 44 cal. is minimum legal bore diameter in Georgia.

    Reboring a rifle barrel

I have considered that, I feel that the dovetail depth is not to deep. If you would like to give your thoughts on the barrel strength here are the specs. Barrel diameters-12/16=3/4" Dovetail depth-.048"
