    Hello again

Been gone for quite a while, hope everyone is doing well. Had to put everything on hold due to work and other issues plus we moved again, up in Albuquerque now and finally starting, six months later to pull stuff out of storage and get back to work. Probably won't be here too often but will pop...

    Need help identifying a revolver

Just saw a solid brass BP revolver at a gun store today, I mean solid brass, frame, cylinder, barrel, wedge. No ramrod (not even where one would be), looks like it might be a .31 cal. I'll see if I can get a picture later but was hoping someone might have an idea who made it.

    Refinishing an old CVA

I have a CVA 12 gage double barrel muzzleloading shotgun, considering removing the bluing on all the metal parts, just use white vinegar. In doing that should I plug the barrels and nipples or not worry about it? Of course I do have to find something long enough to submerge the barrel in. Was...

    Getting everything together

Okay, have my 1750s patterns, linen fabric for shirt and breeches and linen thread. Trying to decide on whether to use worsted wool, gaberdine or a wool/silk blend for the vest and coat. Civilian attire (too old to play anything but a civilian anymore). Was thinking of going somewhat fancy...

    1803 Harpers Ferry

Been looking at an 1803 Harpers Ferry Lewis and Clark commemorative rifle. The "antique" dealer wants $800 + for it but the most I've seen them go for on auctions is $600. It's a Pendersoli and the only thing I would need to do is replace the engraved patch box with a proper plain one.

    Coffee Grinder

Found a coffee grinder similar to this at a junk shop for $10 only it's not as ornate and needs some work. Federal era?

    Pure linen thread

Was wondering if anyone knows where the best place to get pure linen sewing thread (for making clothing). Found this place but the shipping is pretty high. Remenant Remedy

    Hat Blanks

Also have some questions about hat blanks, mainly how to properly sew in a liner and what material is best to use.

    Making my own clothing

I'm considering buying patterns and making my own clothing. My wife and I've made 1850s clothing before and now I'm considering making a 1750s civilian outfit. Any ideas on best (easiest) patterns to use, inexpensive 100% wool and linen fabrics, best thread to use? Was looking at the Italian...

    Oil cloth

Crazy Crow has "Spanish brown" oil cloth by the yard. Anyone have a chance to look at that product? Is it authentic or at least close to authentic? Here's their picture:

    Tulle - Fusil de Chasse

Jedediah Starr Trading Co has a Tulle - Fusil de Chasse kit I'm considering building but the only thing I've ever built was a Colt Sheriffs model 20 years ago and that was nothing more than some minor shaping of the wood on the handle. anyone know how advanced the JSTC kit is? Sent them a...

    CVA Percussion to Flint Conversion?

Have a CVA SxS 12 gage I'm exploring the possibility of converting over to flintlock. Or at least replacing the duck etched lock plates with something less "modern". Easy? Difficult? Impossible? Not worth the expense?

    Tarred Haversacks and Packs Question

Trying to find out (get a time line) on when haversacks and packs started being "tarred". My searches pretty much gives me generic information or want to link me to Civil War Sutlers. I know about Vulcanization and when it was introduced but I've read generic references to "tarring" (without...

    Tulle

Looking at a reproduction .60 Cal French TULLE fusil-de-chasse in great shape I may be able to get for under $250. The only drawback is the barrel and hardware are all stainless steel but I may be able to replace the barrel and hardware with the proper items. Any input would be appreciated...

    Black Powder Shoot and Rendezvous

Visited one today in Colorado, pretty small, three traders. Guess it was mostly a competition shoot and less a rendezvous. Didn't realize how accustom I was to fairly strict authenticity standards. This was more like a NSSA shoot with two thirds of the people in modern clothing and nine...

    Thompson Center Renegade

This may be a weird question but since i don't know, I'll ask. How close to the original is the Renegade? Will it pass muster at an event? The reason I ask is I may be able to get my hands on one for $250. [/i][/b]
