    Relocating back to Evansville, IN

I am continuing my rounds of moving back to places I have lived before. I have been back in Nebraska for the last 6 years, I am now moving to Evansville IN after being gone 10 years- I am sure a lot has changed, but anyone around there in a shooting club?

    TOTW Mink Oil

I concur with the hordes, as a Patch lube, it is great. I make up a batch at the house, where my cans stay. When I get home, I also use it as a leather treatment. It has a better viscosity than Mink Oil sold in shoe stores!

book on making early Colt revolvers

I have seen what is said to be an ordnance Dept box that shipping 10 Colt Army Revolvers. It checks all the boxes, but I have only found one view. I assume it had dividers like the musket crates, appears to be about the size of ammunition boxes, and shares a lot of the same construction details...

How about a branch for a hawk block?

Oh boy, cottonwood... Makes me twitch when I think about the time I tried to sand a piece of cottonwood. Woof, STINKY STUFF.

    Paterson Shooting

I had heard of the cap problem, but forgot about it until you brought it up! I have some .375 balls I was wanting to try, as those work well with my 1851 Colt- which I love to shoot, BTW.

    Paterson Shooting

You’re fancy with your mounted load lever! I bet your gun leather looks so traditional too! I’m in the process of reworking my holster template for my lack of load lever!

    Paterson Shooting

Picked up my first Paterson reproduction yesterday. Same caliber as my 1851 Navy, but obviously different. For those who shoot the Paterson, what tips do you have? I have done a bit of research, and find it fits my hand well. I can cock it with my single hand without trouble, and have a good...

    5 1/2” Barrel Aim

The front sight posts are indeed identical, and the rear sight is obviously in the nose of the hammer.

    5 1/2” Barrel Aim

I have two barrels for my Uberti 1851 Colt in 36 caliber. The 7 1/2” and a 5 1/2”. I prefer to carry the 5 1/2” because of weight and it looks better, to me. Without a lot of range time, I got to thinking about the difference in accuracy in these two different barrels. Is the “standard” 7...

mid 19th Century Winter Shoot Photos

It was a blast. We are fortunate to have a historic parking willing to let us stay in the rebuilt structures! It also helped to know a local landowner close by willing to let us blast some powder and miss lots of planks!

    Revolver Match Maintenance

Given the majority of my background is in mid 19th century military muskets, I always think there has to be a way. But understand that there just isn't a whole lot of documentation for revolvers of the same period. The search continues! Thanks fellas!

    Tow Source?

I will lube with either Olive Oil or spit. Typically my over powder wad of tow will be oiled, then ball or shot, then spit wad. BUT, sometimes all of it is spit. Just depends on how much I want to fiddle with. In the winter, I really just want to shoot.

mid 19th Century Winter Shoot Photos

Earlier this month I collected a group of fellas to come up to Nebraska to shoot a recreation of a mid 19th century winter meat shoot. We took the idea from Currier and Ives as well as George Caleb Bingham paintings. We allowed no modern clothing, shooting items, etc. We came up with agreed upon...

    Revolver Match Maintenance

I have recently hosted a mid 19th century winter shoot in the spirit of George Caleb Bingham's paint "Shooting for Meat". We amassed quality living historians from around the country to converge on a snowy plains day to shoot three different classes of competition. Smoothbore and rifle went as...

    Tow Source?

I am still working through a 1 pound bag I bought about 6 years ago. Purchased from The Woolery, $33.00 for a GIANT bag. 1 lbs of flax tow is about a gallon bag of the stuff. You should be able to find them by a simple google search!
