    Extended late flintlock season success

From Jan 18, season ended on Jan 28....52 yards offhand through brush, but the big ol' 62 did the trick!

First deer with the new rifle

My new custom rifle finally got to strut its stuff tonight a bit. I sat a field edge stand that had deer near it almost every evening since the opener. With the wind (sustained at 10-15, gusts to 25-30), I started to think I'd made the wrong stand choice, but hoped the wind would calm down...

Help me figure out a squirrel rifle?

So, while I love my big 62-cal deer rifle (yes, I know 62's aren't necessary for deer, but they are fun!), I have my mind wandering to something to compliment it. My 62 is a big, bold rifle modeled after the Schreit rifle. It's a big rifle, which is what I wanted. For a range/squirrel rifle...

    Early Reading Rifle

Well, it was asked about in my intro thread in the new members section, so here is my first custom flintlock. I, of course, said it would be my only one. I already realize the silliness of that statement. This is a big rifle, and I absolutely love it. It just lays on target and hardly moves...

    "new" guy from PA

I've been on here a little while, mostly reading, but figured I'd should at least say "hi" and introduce myself. :) I'm from southeast PA, lifelong hunter and shooter, and recently getting deeper into flintlocks than just enough to extend my hunting season. I acquired my first custom rifle...

Ball flattening on impact or no?

So, I shot my 62 cal long rifle into water jugs yesterday. I'm shooting 120gr 2F with a 0.600 ball and 0.024 pillow ticking patches. That combo is giving me 2" groups off the bench at 50 yard and 4" at 100, with very manageable recoil. My rifle has a 46" Hoyt barrel and is very stable and well...

    Bulged breech plug?

I cleaned my GPR tonight and am concerned. I don't know when this happened, as I never looked specifically for it before. But I can see and feel bulges in the bottom flat and on each flat on either side, but only in the plug, not the barrel itself. The area in question is aligned with the touch...

    Interested, but overwhelmed

I've been nursing a slowly smoldering interest in building, but I haven't the faintest clue where to really start. I've been to a few shows, and they are fun, but also somewhat overwhelming. I've looked through a few pretty good looking books, but again, I really am not sure where to dive in to...
