    First BP shoot at a F & G club

Interesting target suggestions. Never heard of cookies, but its interesting to have edible targets! The conditions at the club arent leaning towards a woods walk type event. Light may dawn late on Marble Head.... but ole man winter is fighting to hold on in northwestern Maine. Going to hold...

    First BP shoot at a F & G club

Im going to run an intro shoot at a local F&G club thats never had a BP shoot. The plan is not to shoot bulls eyes, but woods walk stuff. Am thinking charcoal on a string, clays on a string, , cut a string, maybe a candle flame thru a hollow log, maybe a split ball. I've cut cards, shot...

    Lee R.E.A.L.Bullet

Had good luck deer hunting with REAL in my tc hawken, lousy groups in my dixie tryon rifle with cut rifling, lousy in a lyman plains pistol. I barely use the mold any more as i prefer patched balls. One good thing, the lighter REAL bullet dont kick near as much as a tc maxi, so a bit more fun...

    Yo....from Pa

TC Renegade? Nice job. I hunted a bit northwest of Renova a few years ago. Was a thrill, then went to the cornfields in the west. unbelievable country you live in. Welcome to the home of traditional! scrubbs

undersized PRBs in a .50 cal rifle?

Ive fooled with way undersize balls but i'm not sure thats your answer. Rather than mess with a patch/ball change, why not take the gun to the range and figure out how little you can load down for small game and still have good accuracy. Ive shot clay discs one after another with my Dixie Tryon...

Shooting Roundballs in a Repro. Jager Zouave?

I used to use hot soapy water but read an article that changed my mind. Seems like no matter how clean and hot the bore was i'd get rusty looking patches when drying the hot bore before i oiled it. The article said plug the nipple, pour cool tapwater into it. Dump it out after a few minutes...

    Lock tuning questions

Opinions art like touch holes, every flintlock gun has one or it donteth shooteth. Every time ive had a clatch boom lock i got it tuned and ignition was audably and visabaly faster. I recently got a Pedersoli lock tuned by a guy from NH that Track recomended and he did a fantastic job...

    safety opinion

After reading the opinions and thinking about them, i think i'll trade em or nap the heck out of them off the gun. Ur right, why risk it?

    safety opinion

I have small (flint) lock on a Dixie Pederssoli PA rifle. It uses small short flints. I have about a dozen 5/8 to 1 inch flints left over from a tulle de chasse i used to own. Cant use these flints for hunting as they hold the frizzen slightly open at half cock. Question: when on a woods walk...

    kit pistols

Used to see pistol kits in every magazine by just about every maker or importer. Very few available; Lyman, couple of pederssoli's, and tracks hawken. Any others left? Most are the Kentucky. CVA doesnt offer them on their web

    t.c. round ball barrel

I had a tc round ball barrel, was very very accurate. It didnt have that silly QLA muzzle either, which i decided was a dumb idea after watching a guy trying to get patches to stay centered while loading round balls.

    CVA Kenyucky pistol

goin hi-tech. I wrapped a piece of sandpaper around a pencil with the nose cap on and sanded one side to match the other. Before that, i reduced the wood on the stock down to the botton of the cap, and it didnt look quite as bad. Its an interesting and challenging project.

TC 1/48 barrel twist on Hawken?

My son and i have had a couple of TC hawkens. Found the button rifling accurate but patch and ball size very fussy compared to deeper grooved cut rifled barrels. Ive never been afraid to buy a good used TC because of the customer service they provided and interchangable parts. Time will...

    accident

I guess in the end its all about muzzle control. Thats what i taught in hunter safety. And a safety is a mechanical device that can fail. Half cock isnt a safety. Unloaded cylendar is best on revolvers.Even John Wayne said that in the movie, the shootist."so i dont shoot me"
