    Mountain rifle?

You are correct. Talked to L&R and they have nothing that will fit, said its not a Maslin lock just an oddball with really bad geometry, this part I knew. Best they could do was try fit a new frizzen or possibly convert to cap.

The L&R RPL for the CVA/ Traditions large lock is the one you refer to?

You both have called this a new gun but I have owned it for several years, I think its rather a discontinued model branded Traditions. I recall I got it on a closeout deal Thank you for your answers

    Mountain rifle?

I broke the frizzen on my Traditions Mt rifle the other day, when I look up Tradions Mt rifle I get an entirely different gun, ( its the top gun in my avatar). The barrel says traditions mountain rifle 1- 66 The frizzen I ordered in very narrow unlike the one on my gun. Does anyone know...

    Ramrod launch

Civil war manual of arms (hardees or Gilams forget maybe both) call for soldier to place his pinky on the ramrod at the end of the loading cycle before the order to shoulder aim and fire. As a reenactor I found this odd as we never pull ramrods on the field for safety reasons. Dawned on me...

    Jukar 45 cal.

I had one of these 45 caliber flintlocks, it was incredibly unreliable but shot poorly when it did go off. I spiked the touch hole with a file tang and gave it to my nephew to hang on his wall.

    50 cal. rb penetration

I dont know why anyone would WANT a bullet to pass through a deer personally. I would much prefer for the full energy of the projectile to be passed to the deer providing penetration was sufficiant to pass through the vitals for maximum effect. But thats just me. GHOG

    True Grit

I was a big fan of the original TRUE GRIT but the one character I did not like was Glenn Campbells portrayal of LeBefe. He was far to mechanical with his lines. Matt Damon did a far better job in my opinion. That little girl played the part the older Kim Darby was supposed to play. Great...

    Leather dye

yikes :barf: I have no idea what went wrong. Vinegar and iron will give you a dull blackish blue finish but I have never seen purple. I would guess there was some contamination of the dye but I really dont know. GHOG

Now see I have been wanting to make one like that second one, although I like the first as well. Do you have a pattern for that second bag? GHOG

    Leather dye

I use a vinegar with some rusty iron thrown in. Let stand a couple of weeks. Produces a nice charcol grey on vegetable tanned leather. Finish with black shoe polish.

Opinions on Lyman rifle and pistol

Do you mind sharing the address of this gun shop? I have a GPR 50 and a GPP in 50 both I built from kits. Have not shot the pistol much but the rifle is outstanding. Bagged a big fat doe this year at about 70 yrs with PRB over 90 grains of fff. You cannot go wrong with the deal you...

What do you think of this bag

The flap is two pieces sewn together so yea there is leather behind the felt and yes the seams of the bag are welted. Should I make a leather strap of go with the Jute strap that I am envisioning?
