    My first hare hunt.

I've found that a cotton tail will run a circle about 2 acres and circle back whereas a hare will easily run a section or more and possibly just keep on going. Spent more than a few weekends trying to recover beagles that went berserk on a hare and got lost. I hope your beagle knows enough to...

    Original Ingredient

Some of my mother's recipes used baking ammonia and I inherited her stash of it. I made 2 batches of "Lebkuchen" with it and it leaves neither bitter taste nor bad smell while cooking. Taking a nose hit off of the jar is not recommended though. This product was also the "smelling salts" that...

    meat on a rock

Eskimo is derived from an Ojibway term "ayuskimo" meaning eaters of raw meat didn't cook their meat over anything. Their soapstone candles burned whale or seal blubber and did not provide the heat required to cook.

    Camp coffee

If you need milk to cut the bitter flavor in the tea then you have steeped it too long. 4 minutes is the max.

    Smoking and Curing

I have a Bradley smoker and I look out for pork tenderloins, first choice or pork loins, second choice. When on sale here they can be bought for $2.00 a pound. Sometimes even $1.49. Laid in kosher salt plus curing salt for a week and then cold smoked they are delish and last a long time. I...

    Anyone making Kraut?

With German delis all over the town here in Kitchener, home of the world's second biggest Oktoberfest, it's easier to just go out and buy a jar when needed.

Stuck Brush in a Hawken 50

Yeah it does but those straight sticks are 1/2 inch inside and 1/16 wall so 5/8 outside diameter In a 50 cal that will be a tight fit.

    How about some Horseradish?

My mother made a horseradish & beet combo that was milder than straight HR. Wish I'd got her recipe for that.
