    Looking for Hawken help

    I am in process of having an early Hawken built. Full stock,flint,.58cal GM 1:70,iron mounted.Looking for input regarding straight or curved trigger and metal finishing. I would like to be as HC as possible but it will be a hunting rifle.

    Hammer search

    I picked up a .58cal Hawken style pistol with a Percussion lock missing the hammer. Lock is stamped H.W.Robbins and appears to be a 2" throw. I am unable to find info on what appears to be a good lock. Assistance appreciated.

    Black bear load ???

    Looking for information. Have been offered a blind/stand in Northern Maine 40 to 50 yards off a bait site. Better off with a .50 PRB or Maxi or a .62 PRB either will be over 85gr. FFF ???.

    Assistance with a rough bore.

    I picked up a 12ga. New England Trade Gun with a rough bore. No major crators or real bad pits however it is rough. I've been told "use emery cloth" but I would appreciate additional info.

    Request info re: bleaching skins

    I have a set of skins that I got at the Western Nat'l. a few years ago commercial tanned (yellow). Is there a safe method of lightening the color without damage?

    Remove or hide blood spots in horns?

    Is there a method to remove or at least minimize blood spots in a horn? They are fresh horns so is there hope that they will fade out at all?

    How do I clean out a fresh horn?

    I have 2 large steer horns with hopes to try making powder horns.I have boiled them but don't see that it accomplished much. The horn did soften some but the core does not seem to change. Any help appreciated. :idunno:
