    Black Powder Linguistic Pet Peeves

One of my pet peeves is when even so called “experts” call any firearm that uses black powder a ‘muzzle loader’. I was reading an article in a popular gun rag about a black powder revolver using a conversion cylinder. The Author said something like, “ to convert it back to a muzzle loader...”...

.54 caliber Hawken long rifle range report

Hi nice rifle. I agree about double paching. If 2 patches are too tight to load, try using a peice of paper towel between your patch and ball. You can progressively add parer towel until you reach a snug fit. Any Its worked for me in the past.

    Tap-0-Caps

I've seen Tap-0-Caps in old DGW catalogs. I understand that they were made be Foster but they haven't made any since about 2008 or so. Does anyone have any experience with these? (It made percusion caps out of pop cans and cap gun caps)

shot Pietta 1858 with Crisco - messy

Hi! I use the same stuff that I use for Black powder rifle cartridges and patch lube. The formula is 50% pure beeswax 50% extra virgin olive oil. Melt the bees wax in a double boiler. When completely melted, stir in the olive oil making sure itis all mixed together. If you dont it looks like egg...
