    TC Renegade lock problem

I looked it over and decided that triangular piece needed to be rearward of the half cock notch. I pulled it rearward and tightened down the screws and it works now. I will remove the plate and give it a good cleaning after hunting season is over. Thanks!!!! HH

    TC Renegade lock problem

I bought a TC Renegade a few years back and have been happy with it. I got it out a month ago and started getting ready for flintlock season here in PA. The hammer will not catch the half cock. It stays at full cock and fires OK. I took the lock off tonight and brushed a bunch of dried...

pulling ball on 1850 era caplock

Capper, I love shooting. It's not my gun and not my decision. If it were mine and if it were safe to shoot it would be out hunting with me. I can relate to what you are saying. HH

pulling ball on 1850 era caplock

Is there a safety issue with such an old piece? He said it is from the 1850s.

pulling ball on 1850 era caplock

A friend asked me to help him with an old caplock double-barrel. He thinks one barrel is loaded with a ball and charge. He wants it unloaded for use as a wall hanger. He does not know if it is a smooth-bore or rifled. I have only ever pulled one ball on my TC Renegade flintlock. I had no...

    PA M/L Season

I was out last night and tonight. Last night I did not see a thing. Tonight I saw two fox and a great sunset, also heard some owls. I have seen so many fox this year. Next year I plan on having a furtaker license.

    PA M/L Season

I got out for a bit last night. Wow, was it ever windy!! Sat for about an hour and then it got dark. I have not seen deer on this farm all year. I see lots of prints but no deer. Last night I did see 4 deer as I was driving out. They crossed the driveway about 100 yds ahead of me and were...

2 weeks off during ML season, but can't hunt

First off, congratulations on a deer. At this moment of desperation I might be willing to trade an ankle for a deer. Maybe not... Anyway enjoy the steaks!!! "This was the first deer I killed my with new GPR flinter. Somewhere in this story there has to be a name for that gun!" You could...

    PA M/L Season

I am pretty busy the first Sat, so I might not get out. I plan on being out as many evenings after work as possible. I hunt on a farm about 10 mins from work and my nephews place is about 30 mins from work. I plan to hunt both. Might get to Apollo county park in York for a Sat hunt. It is...

    Where are flintlocks made??

I am considering different kits. I do like to buy Made in USA when possible. Where is the Lyman GPR made? What about the parts from TOW, Sitting Fox? Are any made in USA? Thanks!!

Worst ND deer season in years

"I heard that since deer numbers are down this year ND DNR is going to do away with the early deer season, that no one uses, it may just be a rumor though. I could care less as long as they are making the decisions in a reliable scientific manner, and not political hearsay. " I think many are...

Making meat on the last day.

Where you going in PA? I live in York. Hope you have a successful hunt in PA. I have seen a few doe during archery and rifle season. Hopefully will see some during flintlock season.

Worst ND deer season in years

"I have shot 6 deer so far but I still have 3 or 4 tags left " Onojutta pretty much summed up PA. I too have shot 6 deer so far, but it took the past 10 years of hunting. After the "doe extermination mission" the PA game commision has done the past few years, it is even hard to find a deer on...

No Vt, deer but still trying

"I started sewing about a year ago out of necessity. I have always had a problem spending money on things that I new I could make. I must say, although I am a bit embarrassed to admit it, I kind of enjoy it." I started sewing a year or so ago. I made a small backpacking tent. Made it just the...

    Smooth bore gets another

Congrats!! "Dang! where did they come from? Two does are headed right at me about fifteen yards away." I can relate to that! I had a doe appear in front of me last Thurs. I was in an area of cedars too. Real quiet walking. She was looking right at me, I never even got the gun up and she...

    When it gets wet???

I have a TC Renegade with a hooked breach. When I go hunting in wet stuff I just take the barrel off and the whole thing dries out nicely. What do you do with normal MLs that do not have hooked breeches? How do you dry off the area between the barrel and the stock?? I want my next ML to be a...

    PRB for elk?

I am beginning to think the best "compromise" is 54 cal. I really don't think I will ever hunt elk. May just be a dream. I am thinking the 54 would work just fine if I ever got a chance to. WARNING BLASPHEMOUS STATEMENT AHEAD! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!!!!!! If I did draw a rare PA elk...

    NorthStar Canoe Gun

GoodCheer, I too have used penetration to test diff loads as I do not get along with chronos (pretty bad for an EE to not like an electronic device). I used old 2x4s to test handgun ammo. (BTW hard cast bullets penetrate much more than hollowpoints.) Do you have any comparisons of short or...

    NorthStar Canoe Gun

I am new to muzzleloaders. I do like the short barrels, they look cool and handle nicer. I really am not a history buff so I don't care about whether it was really made that way. As a deer hunter I only care: can I use this little gun? We have here 2 1/2 pages of people using vague words...

Oh no, the obligatory "Help me buy my first rifle" post!

I'm pretty new to muzzleloaders myself. I do hunt with my 50. I use 80 gr of FF, my 14 yr old son thinks the recoil is alright. My 12 yr old daughter is very petite. She loads 65 gr of FF with a 50 ball and does not mind it at all. That is the biggest gun she ever shot. I loaded it with 80...
