    Phoenix-Winter Nationals

Does anybody have a guess what the price on a pound of GOEX will be at this event? That reminds me I also need to pick up some bees wax, TC bore butter and 14 gauge wads. I sure do hope that there will be plenty of supplies there. :)

New to Me Pedersoli Brown Bess

I have a Pedersoli Brownbess with a .745 bore also. I recommend a .715 RB for patched or paper cartridge load. I make my paper cartridges with 90grs of GOEX FFF BP which makes, 10 grs for the pan and 80 grs for the bore. My shot load is made with 11ga wads from circle fly wad co. I also use...

    Smoothbore at 100 m

I have a Pedersoli 69 cal musket also and the bore mics out at around .685-.687 so the proper ball dia for my barrel with a patch or paper cartridge is a Lyman .662 RB mould. My Pedersoli 75 cal Brownbess takes a Lyman .715 RB mould to use a patch or paper cartridge properly. I myself enjoy...

You can use "NO-TOX" Bismuth shot which is safe on your barrel, but it is very expensive. :(

    Smokeless powder

My Father still has two boxes of govt factory ammo 45-70 ammo left over from the spanish american war they were semi-smokeless "duplex" loads. Today 45-70 factory loads are kept to around 17,000 psi with smokeless powder for trapdoor reasons. The point that I am trying make is that smokeless can...

    beeswax as alube

I looked at my can of Crisco at home and on the side of the can under ingredients it says that it contains citric acid. Now citric acid is a good cleaner, but if left on steel for a period of time citric acid will cause rust.

    Rust in bore

My favorite rust remover product is "RustBuster" by LACO co. It comes in a plastic bottle just like ZoomLube oil. Take patches of wet RustBuster and wet the bore good with the stuff, then go to town with a bore brush and repeat the process till you get clean patches out of the barrel. Then take...

    Smokeless powder

Ok, now its my turn to ask a question. Why is it ok to shoot smokeless through my original 1878 Trashdoor Springfield? which where originally converted from muzzle loaders. We all know the Trapdoor is a much weaker system then a threaded plugged muzzle loading barrel and the steel that the...

    Smokeless powder

In the 40s and 50s my father used many pounds of smokeless powder in his muzzle loader. This powder was made by Dupont and it was called "BULK POWDER" This powder has not been around in many years, it was used volume for volume like BP. Today Savage Arms makes an inline ML that will take...
