Hey all,

I just pick up a Zoli buffalo rifle from a local auction. The Rifle has minimal ware a really nice rifling. The only problem I’m having is the lock gets hung up on the half cock notch when fired. I’m new with the mechanics of these particular side lock being I only ever had flintlocks and t/c hawken percussion cap rifles. Hoping someone can give me a little insight where to start in solving the problem.

Thank you

It is a single trigger so probably the lock does not have a fly in it and relies on a firm pull of the trigger to clear the half cock notch. Is there any chance the trigger has been lightened so a rather light pull will trip it? I think a trigger pull of a few pounds would fix it. You may have to work with the trigger spring to increase poundage.

On locks like those without a fly, I have found that if someone took the sear spring down too much - thinking they were lightening the pull - they can hang up on the half cock notch.

TIP - Try it with your trigger finger way down on the end tip of the trigger. You need more force in your finger to pull it, even though you don’t detect that extra force, and that allows them to trip reliably.

If it continues - PM me …

Also could be some interference within the inlet or lock plate screws tightened too much. Try the lock outside of the gun and see how it functions.
