I went to a frosty meat shoot the other morning with a good turn out of some great guys. Then there's Bill. I've only seen him at this particular clubs shoots and was always in awe of him since he's 90 years old, he shuffles along, smiling all the while and still burnin powder. We've only exchanged some small pleasantries and nice shootin compliments but yesterday was different. As we were leaving the line he extended hand, looked me dead in the eyes, smiled and said good shooting with you. It genuinely warmed my heart and all I could do was smile while holding his still strong grip and say thank you sir, it was an honor to shoot with you!
I'll never forget that sunny frosty morning in the Catskills.

Speaking from experience You will know if you get that far, an old friend hunted with was about out of steam he says to me "Don't get old" . I was hunting last two days in the hills ,Ime a creaky 79 And his words rang true. My 6 pounds flint rifle felt like it was 8 pounds. I've got a 5 pounds one ile take that next trip. Or it could be down to global warming making the hill steeper now ? While getting old & creaky is the pits it beats the alternative .

now that makes a guys day for sure sounds like day to warm persons heart

Some of my fondest memories of residency after med school was being on weekend call at the local VA hospital. Sit and talk with those guys and a whole new world opens up. Most are gone (WWII and Korea), but any place there is a vet, a great story will follow.

And inside the VA hospital, stories are shared that family members have probably never heard.
 
Not every older person is able to still do the things they used to do, but I've yet to meet one that wouldn't like to do them again. The best present you can give an older person is simply include them in your activities.

Old people can be a hoot and some can even still shoot...if you have a bathroom handy. Glad you have that buddy. Thanks for posting.
