Very nice. Does the nipple screw into the top of the pan cover, is this a convertible gun?

Who ever the maker is his use of a small Colt Eagle suggest a US maker, the form fitting is very European nice work .Once I tried one such in the style of one tried by' Col Hawker' an interchangeable steel that had a nipple arranged to fire with a clamped nose held in the cocks jaws .With that style of exchangeable lock he found it worked for awhile but failed , In that he did better than I did as mine soon got un usable despite a hook like lip mateing to the front edge of the pan it was a L&R late English V pan and I took pains to get the nipple contact directly near straight up My plan was to enter two 13 shot matches flint & cap with the same gun .But Nope cant do these things Nemo .Ile dig it out & send a pic later .

I believe that Stevens is a US maker maybe on the west coast but not sure as these pieces can move all over the US now days. This lock looks like a small Siler that was once a flintlock. The conversion consists of a completely handmade drum (I'll call it that just for reference) that replaces the pan. It is held on by 1 screw on the inside of the lock and the screw on the bridle. Very well made, Stevens knew what he was doing. I should be able to fit a small Siler flintlock to this thus have a convertible from flint to percussion without changing Mr. Stevens work. Very astute on Rudyard to detect a converted flint to percussion (good job!). steg49

Oh well I explained the trial of tube lock & the filling tubes from126 Primers the rest is self explanatory The Tube lock parts where ex Dysons not the cock I part finished that if lost interest enough to make the required tube holder All to save lugging two rifles when one might serve . Well short answer NO it aught but it didn't. Note the angle of contact what Hawker had done not sure but his failed after much shooting '(Hawkers Instruction's to young sportsmen' ) not sure if in it or his diaries & have both Ile look it up for you ( Even if you don't have a sense of humour !) despite the hook like butt end gripping the V pan. Mayhap the gas overwhelmed it when I shot it at a short range Champs at Short Siberia Bisley (MLAGB ) I did prime the pan a bit .The Tube lock worked but loading the tubes was fiddly . Such guns where made & preffered by ' Wild fowlers' misty dank conditions .And live pidgion shooters where Big prizes where at stake. Ask 'Felt Wad' He is Thee definitive authority of such matches . Back to the top, I'm interested in the maker C. R. Stevens. That aside I fire 15 rounds this morning and the percussion to flint torch hole work better than I expected. Just a little blow by as seen on the card stock that I placed in the middle of the main spring. thanks steg49
