Dovetail cut and front sight screw up, maybe

snowdragon, I was concerned about what you said about browning the barrel and the solder showing up. I was able to remove the sight and the solder. But rather then order a new sight I was able to make a very small shin out of some scrap brass. Which worked fine and look a lot better. After...

Dovetail cut and front sight screw up, maybe

I purchased a dovetail cutting kit from Midway USA. I came with a hard steel cutting jig, good instructions and a small safe file. I slid the front sight in the jig to see if it was the right size, it looked OK. Using the jig and two "C" clamps I cut the dovetail--- no problem. However, when I...

I took all suggestion given here. I located the front sight 1.5" from the muzzle. Using a piece of tape on the rear sight. My wife looked down the barrel and we were able to find a location for the sight. Turns out to be about 9" from the breach above and just behind the ramrod entry thimble...

But on a swamped barrel if I move the rear sight forward or back doesn't it also change the height of the sight in relation to the the front sight or is the change so small that doesn't matter.

    Cannon powder vs Fg

I have a small swivel gun, it has a 2" bore and the walls are 1/2 " thick. The person I purchased it from told me it's made from a solid piece steel (schedule 80?) that was drilled and lined. In the passed the person used cannon powder and only fired blanks, no projectile. I intend to do he...

    Suitable Underhammer

I believe the original H&A underhammer had the action pinned to the end of the breech plug with a tapered pin. The newer actions made by Deer Creek, the same kind bluegrouse sells have three small screws that tighten down on to the stud at the end of the breech plug. This system makes it very...

The rut is in full swing in northern NJ.(Sussex county) I just can in from my backyard and had three does come out of the big swamp behind my house followed by a nice 6 pointer. His nose was on the ground right behind them. I could hear him grunting. :shocked2: He stopped broadside,a perfect...

How can I adjust the Trigger pull on an underhammer

John, Gmww, Plink Thanks for all the great help and advice. It worked out perfect. After a few times filing a little and trying, I was able to get the trigger real close to my other muzzleloaders(flints). I'm on my way out to the range.
