    Pietta .36 Navy

For the .36 Navy I cast a .375" pure lead ball. For the .44's my choice is a cast .451" ball. These are cast in Lee molds. with pure lead. Both make a nice tight fit with a small ring of shaving. In the past I cast some .454" balls but they were hard to load so it was back to .451" had never...

    Water

Exactly why I use Ballistol. Tallow rendered from beef kidney fat does not get rancid with age. I have a couple of pound blocks of it that was rendered by boiling three years ago, stored in a fruit cake can on the shelf in my shop. Still good as new, pure white. Some will get mixed with beeswax...

    Water

I clean all my black powder guns with moose milk ( ballistol & distilled water 1:10). The water dries and the Ballistol is left a nice complete coat of preservative. Guns shot with smokessomewhatless powder is another thing no mentioned here. Bunk

Dear Mr. Rudy Thompson, Well the "cartridge" is a paper tube containing powder and projectile not unlike the "cartridge" used with a civil war rifled musket. Since it is a percussion firearm if not here where would you suggest it be mentioned? This part of the forum is for percussion rifles not...

Not being a "Period Correct" sort of guy, I buy tubes from Hahn. Also my carbine has a Marble Bullseye rear sight, a sort of peep sight, and a nice ivory bead front sight. The original sights were useless, so away they went, new dove tails cut done deal. Thanks Hawkeye I will start with the FFg...

    Uberti 1860 Army Question

in the armory here re a pair of 1860 's Army, one fluted one round, that have been touched by the Goon magic fingers. They have somewhere over 600 total rounds and no cap jams. I would recommend Slixshot nipples to cover the cap jamming thing and replacing that dreadful mainspring with a lee's...

Thanks 58Sharps, I have a series of tubes loaded with KIK FFg 30 to 50 grain with 5 grain increments. I might be able to get 55 grains in the tube with the ring tail bullet. We shall see right now I am sort of restricted with what I can do by a mean old doctor. Get one that will go in Boone...

    is Sharps allowed?.

Hello Just4fun63 Since my Sharps had the beech and beech block modified it uses Charlie Hahn pre made tubes. All that is needed is to cut and glue in the base paper, fill with powder, glue in a bullet and shoot. That, however, does not answer your question. If you will search "making paper...
