    I think the new budget line of Pedersoli Hawken rifles look just like the Investarms rifles.

    I have a .54 Renegade and a .50 Silver Elite. Both are amazing. The .54 likes 100 grains of 2F, while the .50 likes 95 grains. Both with round balls, although both also do really well with slugs.

    New Rifle

    I have the exact same set up, German silver and all, except the caliber is .62. What a shooter! And a beauty! I love the way the wide buttplate distributes the felt recoil. It's a pleasure to shoot! Enjoy!

    Ackerman Arms

    Paul is the man! I have had him tune a couple of locks for me- they came back fast, and went from 12+ pound behemoths to 3.5 pound clean breaking jewels. I recommend him whole heartedly!

    The Long Land Brown Bess I got from him did have a great lock, but the tube barrel had "loose chamber" syndrome. A nice tight patched ball would get real loose about 8" from the chamber.

    I usually sight mine in around 3" high at 50 yards to be on at 100.

    My Zoli has a bore right around .581, as measured from a lead slug. Yours may vary, but the measurement is essential to getting a good fitting Minie for great results!

    I would like to recommend casting your own projectiles, and maybe try some slugs, similar to Thompson Center Maxi-Balls.

    This phenomenon was, if memory serves, the reason for the bolt hold-open feature on Mausers. Panicked soldiers would continue to work their actions long after their rifles were empty.

    Rusty surprize

    Before you try anything drastic, might I suggest putting a new crown on the muzzle? It is the most critical spot, and most likely was damaged by the rust. My brother returned my Renegade to me in the same shape, and I did as you did, but until I re-crowned the muzzle, it wouldn't shoot. Now...

    Misfires

    Make sure your nipple doesn't have a sharpened edge on it- I had that happen once after many, many shots had eroded the inside diameter of the nipple to the point it became like a cookie cutter and was clogging itself with material from the caps.

    Restarting a Hawken

    I have the TC mold and cast those slugs all the time- they are easy to cast. They print in the same ragged hole at 50 yards as the factory slugs did.

    I will add this: I have 2 TC Hawkens that have 1 in 48 twist barrels, and they both shoot Maxi-balls and patched round balls equally well. Very well. Usually tight clover leafs at 50yds.

    All of mine have a 1 in 48 twist. Edited to add: mine love the original TC 370 grain Maxi Ball.
