    Carrying Concealed Blackpowder Handguns

I am absolutely amazed at how often this subject comes up, and how long these threads persist. The short answer has already been answered: Yes, you need a concealed carry permit. The rules regarding cc permits vary wildly from state to state. As far as carrying one or using one for...

    Hot water for cleaning

The reason I like to use HOT water is the heat causes the barrel to dry really fast.

    Recovered roundballs anyone??

I realize this doesn't count..... But my mother in law lives in texas and years ago during a visit to the alamo, she bent over and picked up a roundball. It appears to have never been shot. I'm sure she broke all kinds of laws sticking it in her pocket, but now it lives in my safe.

    Hot water for cleaning

What are the pros and cons of using HOT water to clean a rifle barrel? If I remember correctly, there were some reasons given why it was not good to use??

    Range Rod recommendation

I'm looking for a nice range rod that would be sturdy enough to pull bullets if needed. It's on a longer barreled green mountain 54. There's lots of short rods out there. It's a little harder finding nicer long ones. Any suggestions? thanks

    Purpose of buckhorn sight

What if any was the idea behind the buckhorn sight? Especially the full buckhorn. I shoot with one on a custom reproduction. I seem to do ok. But they seem to cover up a significant portion of the target. Somebody must have thought that there was an advantage to the design.

    cleaning base of barrel question

I have a 54 cal green mountain barrel: When cleaning, I push the rod to the bottom of the barrel and give it a few twists. I always thought that by doing so, I was wiping the base of the barrel. Well....the other day, I accidentally noticed that a glob of bore butter on the end of my rod was...

    identifying rate of twist

This is a 54 caliber made some years ago by whoever crafted guns for Golden Age Arms. I'm sure it is barrel made for round balls. Looking on Tracks site, it says 1:70. I'm also seeing this: "Our ”˜C' profile large caliber Golden Age barrel has a 1.062" breech, .812" waist, .875" muzzle."...

    identifying rate of twist

How can I tell what the rate of twist is in a Green Mountain Barrel? The make of gun won't matter because it's a custom gun. thanks

Rough spot in barrel - question

It is a thompson / center 54 cal. More than that, I can't recall. We only had to let the patch and ball soak for about 5 minutes - then we could remove it. But it wasn't easy. The rod we destroyed was one of those metal things with the t-handles. (Not my kind of rod) from there on, we used a...

Rough spot in barrel - question

I was shooting with a friend today and he was shooting a gun he jut bought used. The problem we're having is that there is a rough spot in the barrel - at the beginning where the powder load sits. After a shot, when we would run a patch down it, it would stick every time. And stick hard. We...

Can bouncing the ramrod down on the ball be a safety issue?

Years ago I got in the habit of kind of bouncing my ramrod down to seat the ball. On the third time, the rod bounces back up and I know the ball is seated. I'm not sure why I started this? Then I noticed a safety notice on a black powder accessory that said NOT to do this. Should I stop?

    techniques for measuring out powder

I have noticed that when I pour out my powder into my powder measurer, if I tap it once the powder level goes down. The more I tap it, the more powder it will hold. I'm guessing that as long as I do it the same every time, I will get close to the same results. Do any of you guys tap on your...
