Need to know the REAL deal on Colt 2nd Generations

I guess I misspoke when I indicated "invest" in a 1851. I plan on shooting it some. It is more fun than just looking at it in the box. Just thought I should clarify. Thanks all for the input you have helped a lot.

    Colt 1851 Navy Question?

I have a question about the Colt 2nd generation 1851 Navy. I am wanting to buy one, and I see some advertised as "C" series. How does this differ from Colt 2nd Gens NOT advertised as such? Aside from the signature series which I know the story on them. Any input appreciated.

    Most common caliber?

Back in the late 1700's and through the 1800's. What do you suppose was the most common caliber of muzzleloader used by pioneers, settlers, mountain men? Years ago I seem to remember someone telling me that the smaller calibers(32,36,41 etc...) were more prominent than the .50,.54,.68 etc... I...

    Your first ML rifle

My first was nothing special. A T/C .54 cal Hawken. It was kind of in need of a refinish (which I did). Ended up being a nice rifle. Do not recall what I traded it for though as that has been 32 years ago.

    Horse Pistol: Battlefield Account

My grandfather 1895-1978 would tell my dad stories of his aunts husband who he talked with as a child. He (my granddads Uncle) had been wounded in the foot with a mini-ball at Shiloh. All I know is his name and he was in a Ohio unit. Grandad said his Uncle walked with a limp and a cane brought...

    2nd Gen Colt Prices

You know that is a good idea. Not sure how hard finding one that has been shot will be, but I will start looking. Patience can be a virtue.

    2nd Gen Colt Prices

No, I am not currently a owner of a 2nd gen Colt. I have had a couple in the past but sold them because I did not want to "de-value" them by shooting them. I am not a collector, I like to shoot what I own. Thing is, I am always drawn back to them. I know there are Italian and Spain reproductions...

    2nd Gen Colt Prices

I want to get your opinion on something. I see a fair amount of NIB 2nd Gen Colt 1860's around. Where do you all think the prices on these 2nd gens will top out at? And how long before they top out? I have been watching them and in the last 2 years or so they have seemed to hold at between...

Colt 1851 Navy VS Colt 1862 Navy?

So I am confused(which takes very little to do), but is there such a Colt BP revolver as the 62 Navy? I see these on GB, but perhaps they are misrepresented? Is there only a 51 and 60? :hmm:

Colt 1851 Navy VS Colt 1862 Navy?

What is the differences between a Colt 1851 Navy and a Colt 1862 Navy revolver, besides of course the year?
