    Returning member, new to GA

Hey all, been out of the loop for a while because of life and Army stuff. Just landed in Columbus, GA though and looking to get back in to shooting and trying to build. Any clubs or activities in GA or AL? I'm assuming so, just need a little help getting my feet wet again.

    Good to know.

    Heavy Bench Guns

Is there a competition bracket for flint lock? Or is it what what ever action is on the gun is ok?

    First Flintlock?

I second a .50 or .54, but .45 will kill deer. I actually haven't looked to hard into "best twist." It would depend on barrel length and powder charge. Powder charge is the easiest to manipulate as barrels have become rather standardized. Certain manufactures only offer predetermined...

    New Chisels

Thanks for all the input guys! Sharpening isn't an issue, been sharpening stuff for 20 years. But it is good to be reminded. There is quite a diverse flea/antique market up here, I'll have to go check stuff out. It could be a covert mission while spending time with the wife :rotf: .

Good Quality Less Expensive Smoothbore Kit

Something I've been doing the last couple times when ordering from track is to just do an individual item order. I do not get the stock pre-inlet for the lock anymore. The pre-inlet is to far back and puts the touch hole liner into the front of the breech plug. The side panels on the pre-carves...

    New Chisels

I broke my go to flat chisel the other day. It wasn't anything fancy, just something I got out of the bargain bin. It really only lasted for one and a half guns. So I'm thinking of upgrading. I was looking at the Solingen stuff on totw, they worth it? Or is there something good at the home...

    Heavy Bench Guns

Good info, I was not aware of the rules as I have not had the opportunity to participate in any competitions.

    Heavy Bench Guns

Built a .45 cal with a Rice match grade barrel that came in around 13#. I thought that was heavy. 35+ lbs... yikes! Still need to work it out though, it was my first attempt at dove tails and I put the rear sight to far forward for my liking which messes with me when I shoot it. It has a long...

    Gun hoarding?

I have a desire for a great number of guns but not the money haha. As far as BP goes I will probably build what I want over time. Modern guns I have pumped the breaks on. Only one of my two boys old enough to hunt has really taken an interest, and I found myself with more guns than shooters. I...

Someone willing to harden a frizzen for me?

Yeah that took a lot of tweaking, I didn't mess with the spring, but I found a sweet spot that has avoided crushing flints the last few times it was shot. Broke the main spring though on the last time it went out. :hmm:

    New show Iron and Fire

Yeah, I was not that impressed with the technical aspects of the show. He does make pretty guns though, first time I have seen a swivel patch box. I did catch a glimpse of what looked like a rifle cutter though, very briefly, in the last episode. Maybe he does make his own barrels. I figured...

Someone willing to harden a frizzen for me?

Thanks for the replies, and to Zonnie, yup file sure bit in. Getting it worked on now. Should have thought to test it before it was ever inlet. Lesson learned. I have another L&R for a different set of parts, if it is soft too it will probably make the trek back. The rifle is a farewell gift...

Someone willing to harden a frizzen for me?

Got a lemon of a frizzen on a L&R lock, and I'm hitting crunch time with delivery for this gun. I do not have the knowledge or equipment to harden the frizzen myself and need a willing soul. Send me a PM or something. I need help!

    enough spark?

Had a lot of issues with my wife's Pedersoli. It's the Pennsylvania, but I think it uses the same lock as their other smaller lock style rifles. Hers busted rocks though, even with what appeared to the eye as having good geometry. It took a lot of tweaking to get it shooting right, even had to...
