RE Davis Fusil Fin - French Lock Options?

We've talked here many times about French locks, or the lack thereof. Im looking at having the RE Davis Fusil Fin built, and the builder had some very interesting ideas about getting closer to a "French" lock. I'm a total novice on the nuances, and I know I'd need to go directly to Davis with...

Thanks for the kind words, friends. When it comes to shooting, I'm like the proverbial blind pig who occasionally finds an acorn. PMs sent to those who had qustions. J, I'm happy you saw this post. Congrats on the win at NRLHF - well done :hatsoff: . If that's the modified Centermark you had...

I'm obsessed with Trade Muskets and recently acquired a used NorthStar West "Early English Trade Gun" from a most excellent gentleman who happens to be a member here as well. He will hopefully see this post and recognize the picture :hatsoff:. I shoot NMLRA competition as well as hunt, so I...

    Best Recommendations for Brazier

Hey thanks, MK! I wasn't going to see the fella that bought one until this weekend's club shoot. Those folks were right nice and even let us ue their wagon to haul the double brazier and our other "trade goods" back to camp. - J

    Best Recommendations for Brazier

MJ, Let me find out for you who was making the folding braziers at Ft Frederick. They were so neat (a member of our club bought the double-wide model). I was really impressed with the sturdy construction, not to mention the design that allowed them to be dissasembled and packed away flat. Or...

America - The Story of Us flubs!

Here's Sheryl Crow's actual quote: "There is still, in some areas of America, a great pride in being Southern and holding true to the original Southern attitude. I think our clinging to the idea that slavery is a right and just way of life, you know it is a dark spot in our history." That...

America - The Story of Us flubs!

Like many of you, I spend much of my free time seriously studying 17th-19th C America. So I'll watch anything having to do with that era, then make my own decisions. Beats a dang reality show. But wow - this is even MORE than the usual level of sensationalism with a minimum of fact checking...

    Bending Reeds

Well right - that's what I meant by laying the reed across the top (rim) of the pot to let the steam from the water act on it. I wonder if one could insert a wire through the reed before steaming to help with the bend and keep the hole/channel from deforming?

    Bending Reeds

I have some nice reed/cane lengths I've been using with my stone and clay pipe bowls but want to try making a curved or bent pipe stem next. I've never done this. Would I just boil a big pot of water and lay the stem across the top of the pot until it's pliable? I always like to ask for tips...
