ok if you were to put a caliper to a ball and patch say for a 50 caliber what should it measure

I'm shooting a .490 ball with a pillow ticking patch so I'm guessing .016 for the patch. .490 plus .032 would be .522. The ticking would compress in the bore though. I hope I'm thinking right as I'm not the best mathematician.

Rather than doing math I’d ask how does it feel. A snug fit that pushes down with modest pressure is correct. I’ve never measured a patch thickness and still do OK.
