I purchased a used ROA several months ago. I haven't had a chance to fire it much, but what I have used it, I do like it.
I have a question about the retaining pin for the base pin. This retaining pin is the pin that has a screw head on it located on the right side of the frame in front of the cylinder. By depressing it and pulling the loading (ramrod) handle, the base pin can be removed from the center of the cylinder, and the cylinder can then be removed from the frame.
When depressing the retaining pin, should there be a spring on it to return it back to the position that keeps the cylinder base pin locked, or do you need to press the retaining pin from the left side of the frame to move it back to the position to retain the cylinder base pin in place.
I hope I didn't lose anyone with this explanation!
Any info greatly appreciated.

According to the manual, you rotate the slotted retainer with a screw driver, then remove the cylinder pin. You do not push on it, and there is no spring.

You can get your own owners manual directly from Ruger by downloading the PDF file in this link.Download it to your computer.
Then open it with Adobe and your in business for free.

The retainer screw only turns about a 1/4 turn anti-clockwise to allow the base-pin to come out. After putting it back, the same 1/4-turn clockwise locks it in place. VERY simple.

Mine is 23 years old and still looks nearly new...

Looks like my OA my have some problems with the retaining pin. However, I was able to rotate the screw and hold the cylinder base pin in place.
Thanks to both Zonie & tac for your help.
