My first BP revolver was a 1858 Remington that I think was made by Pietta. I had to sell it back in the mid 80's when money was tight. Now I want another Remington. What brand makes the best revolver now Pietta or Uberti? I want one in .44 with 8" barrel.

I own 4 Pietta. One in 44 and one 36. A 45 Colt and a 38 special. I've had no issues with them. Reason I don't have Uberti is the price difference.

Price difference is inside. Uberti parts are cut steel, the Pietta parts are MIM and thick. Of course they can be corrected but it's a lot more work .
. .
I have 3 Pietta's. An open-top platform, a '73 SAA copy and a 5 1/2" Rem.
I'm thinking the '58 is stronger than the '73 because of the difference
in the width and thickness of the top strap. I'll be doing some "mild testing" with the '58. I already know the '73 doesn't like tests !!

BTW, the Pietta Rem frames are larger than the Uberti's.

Pietta has made strides in quality. I haven't purchased a Uberti in a number of years. I like both, but might opt for Pietta these days.

Piettas are fine pistols and shoot fine. I got nothing bad to say about them.
Ubertis fit and finish is without question better. From the stamping on the barrel to the fit of the wood grips to the frame.
If that matters to you get uberti, if not save the money and get Pietta.

Yes, Pietta's are fine until they shave the cam off because the bolt arms are way too thick and have heavy springs. "Save the money" so you can send it somewhere to get fixed.
Uberti's, on the other hand, have better fit / finish and WAY better action parts . . . Spend a little more and get a better (inside and out) revolver.

This is what I had to do to the Pietta NMA Target to get it even close to point of aim (raised front sight) . That is a LOT of elevation change (it was shooting so high that I did not feel filing the rear notch was going to do it and I believe I am correct)

The rammer shape on the Pietta was wrong even for ball, it did a weird squish/ mash on it. It had no round shape at all, kind of a cross bar (it will now do balls and conicals decently after I cut it back a shade and profiled the interior)

That is a one off Pietta as that is the only one I have, so you need more owners to chime in. Its not accurate though I am going to try larger sized balls and have to see on various powder and load levels. Mid winter is not a good time for good testing.

I like the rear target sight but its funny it does not adjust to a sane height at 15 -25 yards. I don't know about Uberti but the screws are really soft (and metric)

I haven’t handled either brand that have been made in the last 3-4 years. I own both Uberti and Pietta, but mine are all older, I like them all. I will say that the fit and finish of my Uberti Leech & Rigdon is the nicest I have, but again it’s old. Now a days I think it would be best to actually handle and work the revolver you want to buy if at all possible, regardless of the maker.

Back when you had to sell your revolver, there was a distinct difference between the two manufacturers, with Uberti being better. That gap has been closed and it's up to you to choose which one is best. If you are buying from a store, ask to check the action of the revolver. Don't dry fire it! Just cycle the action with your thumb on the hammer. You are checking the timing and how the bolt spring mates up to the notch on the cylinder. If the bolt spring drags across the cylinder then ask to handle another one. My current Pietta 58 Remington has superb timing, straight out of the box.

Now, if you already own Remingtons in need of some timing work then you want to have an "action" job. The internal springs are replaced with piano wire and it functions much better.

Not BP, but I have three stainless Uberti / Cimarron revolvers (two .45 Colt one .357 magnum) and all are flawless in fit and function. Their stainless is about the nicest revolver in SS that I've owned and that's quite a few. To date I have and have had revolvers and autos from Beretta, Freedom Arms, MR's BFR, S&W, Colt, Ruger and more.

I generally will not buy a blued or other non SS (well maybe nickle or chrome) gun so that limits my selection and helps keep money in my bank account :)

I had always heard Uberti was better, but reading different threads here most seem to lean towards Pietta, especially with the Colts. I have 4 Uberti Colts I have not fired--got the Ubertis because I didn't see DGW had the models I wanted in Pietta. Maybe Pietta doesn't make those models. My Remington NMA is Pietta. I bought it in 1980 and it has a 1978 date code. I have never had any problems with it. Even has 5 of the original nipples--one I dropped down the sink when kitchen cleaning a couple decades ago. Maybe the older Piettas had better steel than the newer ones?

Pietta and Uberti are the major BP reproduction players, some hate Pietta because of markings are visible. I have had Both I careless if caliber and black powder only and Pietta on side. Thus being said hits and misses are abound by both. To sum it up I have gotten Pietta out of the box Perfect and Pietta out of the box I needed to spend days on file & sand paper bigrade to make them run Perfect well as far as Uberti YUP the same exact from them as well. I just buy em used at a third or half the new price and work them to my needs.

I have a 2019 Pietta NMA. After a trigger tune and minor action tune I was surprised with the kind a match grade result I only expected from my custom .36 Navy Remington. Unlike other NMA I have shot the 2019 had little cylinder binding Issues. Only after 4 cylinders it needs lube and wiping. Maybe I just got lucky...c
